Can anyone help me decide on newborn dipes? I want to get them ordered!

We are getting ready to CD #2, and I'm having a hard time deciding. Last time we used Kissluvs fitteds (had a dozen of them) and prefolds (which we used mostly oncethe fitteds were dirty) for the newborn stage; worked great for us. Not sure if I should just get the same Kissaluvs, or maybe try their newer organic cotton & hemp fitteds (which apparently fit the same, just are more absorbent.) They are $4 more PER diaper, though!

We still have some prefolds, and could use those too, but, honestly, I'm thinking I might prefer the ease of fitteds since I'll be adjusting to juggling the needs of two kids.

I have already:
12 small hemp doublers (which fit great in the KL0s)
prefolds

Should I get:
24 sherpa KL0s?
12 sherpa & 12 hemp/cotton KL0s?
18 KL0s (either kind)?

Don't know why I'm having so much trouble deciding...but I'm nesting and I want to get his figured out! I'm ready to get those diapers prepped and put away!

I love my kl 0s. I just pulled mine out of storage for baby #2 and they're in great shape. I don't think I would go with the hemp ones. I know lots of people love hemp, but all my hemp diapers/inserts held onto smells more than my plain cotton dipes did and I didn't really need any more absorbancy when ds was in his 0s.

For newborn diapering, I really think you can't beat fitteds (like Kissaluvs) and prefolds! Throw in a few good covers and you're good to go. I always used the regular KLs, and didn't have problems. I don't think I ever needed hemp-level absorbancy for my newborns.

Good luck!

I am not a KL fan, personally. I can't really say why... I just don't like them.

I am sewing my newborn fitteds, though, so that isn't much help for you! I am sewing them out of bamboo and hemp bc I hate bulky diapers on tiny babies so I wanted to go with really absorbant materials, and use fewer layers of fabric.

But, I would say that if it was me I would get 18 and deal with the prefolds for a few hours on wash day.

I haven't CD'd a newborn before, but I have decied to go with the Swaddlebees organic fitteds. Apparently there was an old style that was too tiny, but these newer ones get good reviews. If you buy 12 or more on Jillian's drawers they come out to a little less than $12/diaper which is better than the organic KL0s.

We are using the Bumgenius bamboo fitteds ($11.95 each) on our newborn and LOVING them! They are SUPER soft (really, it's outrageous), plenty absorbent, trim, and excellent at containing massive amounts of bmilk poo. We haven't had a leak of any kind (ds4 is 3 weeks old today). They fit great at birth (ds was 7-2), they did not interfere with the belly-button, and they still fit great with room to grow now that ds is at 10 lbs. We will definitely be ordering more in the next size when the time comes.

I'm not a fan of KL myself, mainly because I find them oddly trim in the front, and oddly bulky in the back (the opposite of what my boys needed), and I don't like the ruffles around the legs (the bamboo fitteds are turned and top-stitched). Also, while I generally prefer snaps over velcro, both dw and I are loving the velcro on the bamboo fitteds, I think because it's so much faster and easier to get a nice snug fit. We have a few snap diapers (loveybums and swaddlebees), and they are definitely the diapers that we reach for last because it's just more hassle (and this is our FOURTH child in six years, so no time for hassle, lol!). Also, my favorite of our wool covers all have snap closures, and I don't like putting snap covers on top of snap diapers . . . usually under a snap-crotch outfit . . . it's just too many snaps!

We have 18 of these fitteds, and I think it would be perfect if we had 24 (then we wouldn't need to use anything else). Still, we do wash them nearly everyday; we'd probably need 3 dozen to securely go to every-other-day washing.

HTH!

I really wanted to get these but was turned off by the microfiber...have you had any issues with the microfiber holding smells or causing rash? I had wanted to go with all natural fibers, but the trimness and velcro aspect of that diaper is really attractive to me. I haven't actually purchased the swaddlebees yet so I could still change my mind...
Thanks!

How are the KL0s as compared to the XS Fireflys? I just got the Fireflys in the mail and they are so tiny and cute and I have to admit I cuddled one. I'm nesting pretty hardcore too

I have 24 prefolds but am wondering how many fitteds I'll need.

Oh, just saw SuzieLee saying 18. That sounds like a good number, thanks!

Edited to Add: I'll probably stick with Fireflys, just saw KL0s are made of fleece. I'm way more into the whole cotton thing.

We haven't had any issues at all. But I've never had stink issues with microfiber soakers, only with hemp. I also love that you can hang them to dry and they don't get stiff or "crunchy" at all, like 100% cotton does.

another suggestion is the drybee gone natural stage 1, they are SO soft and will grow a bit longer with the newborn. I love newborn diapers.

The KL0s are cotton fleece. Not polyester. Just FYI!

I think they have 10% polyester, at least the colored ones I just got do. Dont know about the unbleached though.
