Parents magazine "Weaning without whining" article

It's "The Give-it-up Guide: Simple ways to get your baby to say so long to the Binky, bottle, blankie, and more."
An article about how easy it is to wean babies from things and the first one mentioned is nursing. The instructions are clearly intended to be used with a baby under a year b/c it tells not to use cow's milk and to replace each bfing with a bottle.
In a sidebar they say that thumbsucking is a natural reflex and it's okay for kids under 4. Nursing, apparently, is not.

That sucks! It's not surprising how few women breastfeed past a year with articles like that. :

I'm surprised that it condones thumbsucking- most of those magazines have it out for anything that helps a child fall asleep.

It's so sad to think that women who have children under a year will read this, and think, "Oh, I should do this!"

Is there anyway to write a letter to the editor about the article?

are kids under one even capable of whining? maybe that's the point...wean them before they can assert their will. sad

Thanks! I'll have to draft up an email for them!

ugh.. how horrible! When I was pregnant with AJ, someone (I still have yet to find out who...) signed me up for a subscription. I called "Parents" and told them I didn't want it, but they told me that it was set up free for me til 2010.. yada yada yada.. I finally just hung up. Now that stupid magazine comes in the mail box once a month and goes right into the trash.

This article just proves to me that I'm doing my baby good by NOT reading it. Will for sure send an email (thanks for the link!). I just find it sad that a first time mother will read that and think that is what they are "suppose" to do.

I have written them several times for articles I felt were misleading, did not have all the facts, etc. They were never acknowledged - not that I am surprised though.

Thats so awful ! Readytobed I compleatly agree , infants are not "whinners" I highly stress to all new parents and PG women I meet not to listen to so called experts in child rasing and to listen to their own hearts and insincts. I wish more women were child led weaners but I doubt any main stream publication will advocate that any time soon . :
