I am excited to see more of Samuel L. Jackson and Natalie Portman... other than that I am not so sure. :

Oh my goodness, I am so excited! I saw the original at age 4 back in 77, and I have been a huge Star Wars geek every since... I was "okay" with the Phantom Menace, thought it had some (!) problems but overall had a good measure of Star Wars-ness, but AOTC looks really exciting! Natalie Portman keeps getting stronger as an actress, I think, and I was very impressed with Hayden Christianson (sp) in "Life as a House," and I think Ewan McGregor has a great Alec Guiness impression going on ... I am going to be there opening day! Okay, will admit I am a little sad the Yoda is going to be CGI, but he seems to look better than he did in Ep 1, that version of "Yoda" was just painful! I will disagree with above opinions slightly and say that while I normally very much enjoy Samuel Jackson's work I was not impressed with him in Ep 1, nor from the trailer clips of Ep 2. We'll see how his character develps, though. I have been geekily looking forward to May 16th for a long, long time.... (ago, in a galaxy far, far away:LOL)

peace,
jen

I am also looking forward to it, but I have never left my dd (9.5 months) for more than half an hour. I am nervous about it....

Katrina, my son was about your daughter's age when Episode One came out. I tried to concentrate on the movie but all I could think about was my son and I worried constantly. He was fine without me of course, but I was not used to leaving him!

I know this is going to sound weird, but I am really starting to look at Star Wars in a new way. I have always loved it. I think it let me survive middle school. However, I have really begun to analyse my love for it. As a child I was adopted by my grandparents who both have passed on. I found out just recently that my my b-mom died in 1998, (haven't gotten the death certificate yet for cause of death) and my father was about as absent as they come and if I believe my grandmother, may have beat me up as a child, caused my mother to lose custody of me, and push my mother to try to commit suicide. With all the orphans and bad dads floating around the Star Wars universe, I don't think it is a conicidence that I am drawn to it. My husband had a similar bad dad, (abandonment and didn't pay child support), and loved Star Wars too. It is one of the things that brought us together.
Any thoughts?

There is a lot to be said of Star Wars being archtype.

The movies become more complex (original trilogy) as they're made. Epi.1 will likely be the simple storyline with 2 and 3 becoming more intricate and complex (as well as dark)

I'm holding out hopes for a *sequil* with the original actors (a generation removed) in cameo roles.

The reestablishment of the Jedi order and a new Republic.

Ahhh, dream on.

bump!

Almost there!!! I got tickets for Thursday night yesterday, I can't wait!

My dh is letting our girls (8 years old) skip school that day. They already have tickets for three showings on Thursday, including 9 a.m. Can you tell they're SW freaks? I'm just happy that I have the baby as an excuse to not have to go to this one
post #18 of 26
I'm going to see it in less than two hours!!!! Anyone seen it yet?
I didn't but my dh and girls are at their second screening for the day. I think they'll probably see it one more time today. I talked to dh on the phone; he said that it's great and blows away Phantom.
