How to make flower children from felt

Thread Starter
I have posted this in the Waldorf forum aswell but wondered if you might help me here:

Does anybody know of any craft books which show how make this style of flower children? (Please scroll down the page to near the bottom to see the pictures of the flower children kits when you click on the link)

I love these and would love to make them for my children but think these kits are very expenisive for what they are (£9.50 each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I would like to make several of them and so can't afford these kits!

I would love your help!

I love those--I definitely want to try to make something like that! Thanks!

But I don't have any insight for you. I'm just eyeballing it and it looks like I'd make a cylinder of felt for the body, stuff it with wool, do the head with stockinette and wool, then cut the felt pieces and sew them on . . .

how sweet they are! My daughters would love those!!!!!! I have extra felt so I may try tonight. Maybe add a round flat stone in the bottom to help them stand up and give them a little weight???? My 4 year old gets SO frustrated when she can't make dolls sit or stand properly.

There's a book called Felt Wee Folk by Sally Mavor that I thought had really cute ideas. Here's the Amazon link; I was able to find the book through our library so I didn't have to buy it.

so I had leftover felt from making a bed canopy for my 9 year old for her birthday and I tried these. I just sorta winged it and handsewed some scraps together. They came out adorable. I did a short squat wide triangle for the body and used a circle of bamboo velour for the head(it's hard to get it in the body and sewn in right so don't seal the body off before the head is on). and the bottom of the body gets a circle of felt sewn on and a little triangle hat on top. Adorable and takes like 30minutes each(from start to finish, cutting and confusion included). They love these little babies and they are perfect car toys.

Do you mean the little acorn boy? that is a kit from de witte engel a dutch company. the basic body is the same for each doll. I have got some patterns here I'd be happy to send you one of them so you know how to do the basic body and head etc and then coming up with clothing is pretty easy.
also the following companies do similar kits most of them have english translations.

scroll down a bit to the column on the left that reads ateliers, these are the designers, the comlumn under that(web)winkels met pakketjes en materialen has online shops.

A lot of these designers do newsletters with free patterns a few times a year.
also this site has good instruction. in dutch but I guess babelfish could translate if you need it.

You need to get "Making Flower Children" by Sybille Adolphi-published by Floris. I believe I got my copy from the Silver Penny (silverpenny.com). You might find it on Amazon as well. Good luck!
