meconium and cloth

With our 1st we did disposies for the 1st month, this time round I'd like to do cloth from the get go. My concern is the meconium. Do you use a liner until baby has passed all the meconium? Does it wash out easily? Does it stain (not a huge issue but curious)?
Thanks.

I used nothing but cloth diapers and did not use liners. I had no problems washing it out. It did sort of stain but as the weeks went by and many washes later you could no longer see them.

If you are concerned about staining, you can use a liner, but I think most mamas use cloth and don't worry about it.

Do try rubbing baby's bum with olive oil before hand to make clean-up easier!

I'm going to use cloth from the start and stains don't bother me much. I mean, diapers are made to be pooped in, right?

I figure too that any staining can be taken care of by the sunshine. I was just curious b/c it comes out so black I can't quite imagine it washing out so easy.

For mommas who used cloth from the get go, did you bring your cloth diapers to the hospital (if you were at the hospital)?

Yeap, use olive oil on baby's bum and don't worry about the meconium. Washed out without anything special done to it.

If it does stain, it should fade with a few washes and some sunning (if you can!)

I asked the same question about a month ago. We have used cloth from the beginning and are now on day 6 with yellow poos! I haven't noticed any staining at all, everything washed out fine. We didn't scrape anything off or anything like that - the mec-y dipe went straight into the wetbag until washday.
Right after I posted the same thing I realized that I had to wash many-a-mec-covered-sheet at the midwifery clinic where I worked and they all came out really easily. After all - it's pretty much just mucus and some greenness.

Olive oil on the bottom and if it doesn't wash out after washing lay the wet diaper open in the sun. you will be amazed at how the stain disappears.

We've used cloth from birth with all of our babies and the mec. was never a problem at all. IME, it's the yellow poo that's more likely to stain.

Yes I brough them to the hospital. In fact I was a home birth transfer and one of the things I kept yelling on the way to the car was to grab the cloth dipes. I brought mostly fitteds and a few covers. I like going with out the covers in the beginning because they pee so much and I know as soon as they are wet. Which also helped me keep a good diaper count for wets and such. I brought a big wet bag with me for the dirties. No one said anything about it but My Dh and I were the only ones to ever put diapers on the babies so I don't even now if they noticed.

yeah this is what i thought too. nevermind the mec , its the regular poo that is the issue here lol. actually i dont really care about stains on the dipes, because they are meant to be poo'd on.

The meconium didn't really stain, and the new baby poo stained but would sun out... if someone can tell me how to get toddler poo stains out, I'd be very grateful!

The sun worked wonders on toddler poop for us.
