I do hope that no one thinks I am talking down about their choice to EC. I am very supportive of others and it does work well for many. I hope it works well for those that try it.
(as a note, my daughter does have many food allergies. But she nursed so much too that her frequent peeing may have been from that. She almost nursed non stop up until weaning just before age 2. Now she pees a "normal" amount.)

I love reading about everyones CD stash, but how come no one talks about cloth wipes? Are you using disposable wipes or what? I'm confused. Shouldn't cloth wipes be part of your stash?

Just today I made my first set of cloth wipes. They are so freaking cute! They are dark blue flannel on one side and dark/light blue with skulls and crossbones on the other. I got to use my sewing machine that I haven't touched in years. I was so proud of myself. DH was very impressed and thought they turned out better then he was expecting.

So, how many cloth wipes do you need? I now have 20 of my cool ones and 4(amazingly soft) bamboo ones I got as a gift.

I use cloth wipes. I like the Kissaluvs wipes the best.

We use cloth wipes too, most of mine are old leftovers from my daughter so they're not new and exciting like the itty bitty newborn dipes LOL

I have 10 kissaluvs that only fit up to 10 pounds.
18 small fuzzi bunz.
20 medium fuzzi bunz.
10 large fuzzi bunz.

I was given some size 1-2 huggies that I will use up, probably when going out. I am tempted to take them back and not use them but I find having some throw away is nice to have on hand.

I still have to sew new elastic in all of the fuzzi bunz. I have been waiting until the last minute to do this, with the baby coming only one week away I better get busy!

Ok so I counted. Probably shouldn't have done that
I just have to make sure DH doesn't see the list because I may want to buy a diaper here and there and he will think I am even more crazy than I really am.

NB/infant
12 premie prefolds (I make small babies and the infant were bulky)
36 infant prefolds
5 NB fitteds (I forgot the brand)
4 nb mutt fitteds
5 3SR mutt fitteds
6 susie one size (SOS) fitteds
3 goodmamas fitteds
3 BG OS pockets
5 bummis covers small
2 bummis covers nb
3 interlock wool soakers
3 pairs of knitted wollies

More wipes than I can count but most are just cut bamboo fabric.
About 12 pretty ones that we have been using as washcloths in the bathtub for DS1. 3 smallish/medium wetbags for out of the house diapering and 2 pail liners (one new one old). I think I still want to pick up a few more wetbags because I have started using one of them as a knitting bag.

Once I get to mediums I have at least 36 prefolds, more knitted pants and shorties than I can count and lots of fitteds as well as a handfull of FBs. Of course the OS and the 3SRs works well into toddlerhood. My 2 year old can still wear most of them.

Now if I was going to count my yarn I still have stored to knit more pants I would be in real trouble. Let's just say I did not cloth diaper to save money the first time around

24 orange edge prefolds
7 KS0s
assorted fitteds (esbaby, GMD)
5 Thirsties NB covers
3 Blue Penguin POSO size small
various woolens, mostly Loveybums
6 small FB

I use wipes made by Kate Danzer on diaperswappers, but I know how to sew now so I may make some more.

We use cloth wipes for diapering and for the family in the bathroom as well. We have an assortment of sizes and fabrics from different places plus some homemade ones.

I don't know exactly what a good number to have is, but a lot is a good idea. If you're exclusively making them yourself then you can easily bulk up your stash as needed... And experiment with different fabrics to see what you like best!

We use cloth wipes for everything here counters, scrubbing, baby bottoms. Just regular cheap washcloths.

I have some cloth wipes but honestly, dd2 hated them from the start so we mostly use the flushable wipes that dd1 started using when she potty learned. (we don't do family cloth )

I'm curious to see what this babe likes in terms of bottom wiping, and if the cloth wipes are a go they're super easy to make. Heck, you can even just buy one of those mega packs of cotton washcloths (the thin kind you find 10 for a dollar at walmart/target). Right now we have some homemade flannel/terry cloth wipes, some "t-shirt" cotton wipes, a few flannel-only, and a few terry cloth only. Oh, and a couple cotton/linen handkerchiefs that are super soft and about 20 years old... I grabbed them at a thrift store one day and they made super wipes for dd1, then morphed into amazing dusters when dd2 decided she hated cloth.

During the newborn period I use a homemade wipe liquid and a little olive oil to get the meconium off. After that I really like the kissaluvs diaper potion (spray) for routine bottom wiping (and toddler booboos/itchy bites), but we also use the Earth Mama Angle Baby dipaer rash soap (during bath time, not at dipe changes), a homemade beeswax/olive oil diaper balm at night, and if a rash does hit I'll dab on breastmilk during the day but for night I find Boudreaux Butt Paste is nice for keeping babe comfy till morning (and I like the vanilla smell... but it's not a good choice for cloth dipes since it's pretty thick so either put babe to sleep on a pad or use a sposie)

I have a ton of cloth wipes, I just don't really consider them part of my stash. for this babe I got about 16 new ones from this hyenacart store - flannel/velour and velour/sherpa - http://www.quiltersnappies.com/index.html

I didn't want to list seperate pictures since they're all in the same place. Just scroll down the first page, there should be three pictures of "stash-like-stuff"

I have

--13 infant prefolds+25 regular sized prefolds (elimination communication)
--5 newborn covers
--14 one-size pocket dipes (if I have another baby over 8 lbs these will work fine as newborn dipes)
--55 wipes (all homemade except 3 given by a friend...Punkin Butt brand)
--14 pocket inserts

I'm just assuming we don't even need this much b/c we're doing elimination communication and because if the baby's like my last 9 pounder, we don't really need newborn-sized anythings...we'll see.

Nothing to show here, but I just wanted to mention that I got all of my diapers and prefolds washed today. YAY!! There are actually a few still in the dryer right now, but that is it.

I have 24 brand new bg 3.0s that need washed/dried (just came yesterday), along with 40 old BG 2.0s (some of which are a bit stretched out after 2.5 yrs of use. And I have a pack of pampers newborn size for the first day or two home when I'm sure to be tired and not up to dealing with cloth... though I'm really hopeful that he'll fit into the bg 3.0s!!

ETA: Oh and we have quite a few cloth wipes (mostly the bamboo ones from bumgenius), though we also use disposable wipes from walmart (parents choice organic...).

Finally got around to taking pictures of our stash: CLICK
post #60 of 74
I think I'm finally done! :
I have:
12 used prefolds
24 organic prefolds
3 newborn covers
6 small covers
1 newborn all in one
16 mother ease one size fitteds
10 snap in mother ease doublers
5 fleece liners
1 newborn hemp doubler
1 small hemp doubler
6 snappis
300 flushable liners (they came with the pack, I'm not sure I'll want/like them but we may as well try them)

I'm still going back and forth about wipes. DH and I use disposable wipes all the time for camping and hiking, maybe we'll just see if we can find a brand we like that doesn't seem full of creepy stuff.
