2nd Parent Adoption

Hello, I have a question regarding 2nd parent adoption. My partner and I live in Ohio and 2nd parent adoption is not allowed. Most families have co-custody agreements.

Is it possible to "cross the border" into Pennsylvania and adopt (we are planning to conceive next year). Do we have to be a resident of PA?

I don't have a specific answer to your question, although my guess is no. Adoption laws seem to be rooted in the state of residency. You might want to check out the National Center for Lesbian Rights. They have great information on custody, adoption, rights, etc., for each state.

Good luck!

I'm fairly certain that you would need to establish residency in a state that allowed second parent adoption.

thanks all for the advice. I'll check out the NCLR.
