Doll Slings

I want to get my DD a sling for her DD. It's about a foot in height. I would like it to look similar to the slings I use for her/will use for the baby I'm expecting - but it's more important to me that she can easily take it on and off herself. She's 2 1/2. Suggestions?

Honestly i would just get a piece of fabric and tie a knot in it. Maybe put a plastic ring on it so it looks more realistic.

My friend sells some on Etsy - I bought matching ones for DD1 and me. They are so cute! Her ID is babythebaby.

A pocket sling would be easy to get on and off with no need to adjust. My 3yr old son uses one. It would be easy enough to make although I bought mine from earthslings.com

I made my DS a pouch sling using an old receiving blanket. I can barely do more than sew a button on, and this took me about 5 minutes to do. I just folded the blanket in half lengthwise, sewed the long end shut (just by hand with a needle and thread and a messy running stitch), then brought the two short ends together and sewed them together. That's it!

After that, you just fold it in half again like you would with any pouch sling, and you're done! Easy, and no purchases required.

I made it when my DS was 2, and it still fits him at 4.

I've made pouch slings for my kids, which work well for them. I first made one for my daughter when she was right around 2.

I make a standard pouch sling on a small scale, but I do the shoulder differently. Instead of just leaving it open, I fold as usual, and then push the fold through to the open edge, creating sort of an accordion fold, with 4 layers of fabric instead of just two. Then I sew across the shoulder to keep it in place. This makes the shoulder part narrower and easier to wear, as well as making it clear which part is supposed to go on the shoulder. Since dolls are lightweight in comparison to babies, it doesn't matter that this method reduces the area over which weight is distributed.
