Projected completion date for the vax is in Oct. Of course the very young, the very old, and pregnant women. If it is available to us ladies, what will you do?

No way, no how. I wouldn't get this vaccine if I wasn't pregnant, much less with a babe on the inside.

I think it's outrageous that such a new, minimally or UN-tested vaccine would be mass distributed to small children and pregnant women. It's BRAND NEW!

The number of deaths in relation to the numbers infected just don't warrant the risk, IMHO. I think the majority of the deaths had underlying health conditions as well.

absolutely not.

i am pro vacanation, though i get the impression that makes me a bit unpopular, but i just feel that id rather not get Swine flu when i am pregnant,
and i trust my doctors that they would not ask me to take something if they thought it hurt my baby,
i agree it is a risk however i think its one im willing to take

No. I've never even had the standard flu vaccination, so I don't plan on getting this one.

No way. Nobody in this house gets flu vaccines. Any of them.

Big NO.

N to the O.

But, does anybody know about the latest death in California of a pregnant woman with swine flu? I'm sure she had underlying conditions, but what?

It does worry me, being pregnant in the middle of the upcoming flu season, and if you study past flu outbreaks, they say they come in waves and the subsequent waves are more severe than the previous. Mutation, whatever...

Just in my thoughts for the future.

Anybody have any info?

My 5 yo DD had H1N1 about 3 weeks ago. Because she is a healthy kid she bounced back very quickly and it was really not that big a deal. None of the rest of our family got it.

I won't be getting the vax for my kids because it is very new and I don't think we know enough about it. I might feel differently if my kids had other underlying health issues that would put them at risk for serious complications with h1n1, but without those I think the vax is riskier than the illness.

Vax

Correct in that most deaths here in US seemed to be related to preexisting illnesses complicated by flu. I've gotten the flu shot on and off through the years (former military so no choice but vax there). I'm also allergic to Tamiflu so if and when I've gotten the flu--I just have to power through it for the 3-4days I feel on deaths door. The main concern of course with the flu is our fever. Keeping the fever down is paramount.

I don't think that I will vax for H1N1. I'm undecided as to the regular flu shot as I tolerate it very well and did also (military) while preg with my 6 year old son, but I'm generally lazy with that stuff and tend to procrastinate.

I'm still in "wait and see" mode. If this flu is similar to other flus in the next big wave, probably not. If it ends up being more serious, then maybe. I figure as long as there's still Tamiflu/Relenza available, I'd just get one of those (whichever one is most effective) if I came down with a regular flu.

I am not sure. It is probably something I would discuss with my midwives and would partially depend on how prevalent it would be in my area as well.

I won't be vaxing. I heard some coverage about the swine flu during the Carter administration, and the same thing seemed to happen: panic and a flu vax came out very quickly. More people in the US died or had bad complications from the vax than from the flu! There was a brief scare about it in my area (there are a lot of migrant farm workers from Mexico, where they'd been having problems with the swine flu) but ultimately nothing happened, even though I do believe some people had contracted it (some= 4-6). I'm keeping my ear out, but I'll just hole out at home if it got bad in my area. It seems to be spreading worse in other countries; of course, this could be my misperception since the media has stopped covering it, leading us to believe it's no longer a problem

You couldn't pay me to get that vax. Brand spanking new vax that could harm me or my baby? No way.
well, aside from the fact that I generally have a good immune system and I don't normally vax outside of what is actually required (for school/work/etc), I won't be taking a brand new vax. There are too many kinks to work out with a new vax and like a PP was saying, last time there was a flu strain like this and they made a vaccine, more people had complications (including MANY deaths) from the vax than from the flu.

I'm not totally anti-vax, but you won't catch me any where near the H1N1 vax.

I am really, really not sure. I would definitely have to wait and see. H1N1 is widespread in my area and from what I have read it is severe and high-risk during pregnancy, especially during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. We are not strictly no-vax here as ds has just started his first vax's at age 3.5, and I have had some recently as well. I am really concerned about testing out a brand spanking new vaccine, but I am really concerned about catching H1N1 as well.

We only do selective vax's & this one doesn't fall under super important to us. That goes for kids & grown ups.
No way.

This is a such a scam. More people die each year from the ordinary everyday flu and we don't get vaccinated for that either.

Ridiculous.

And I do get vaccinations for most things for my kid (except chicken pox, that's just nonsensical). We live in Central America where there are a lot of tropical diseases, but so far the death rate of the swine flu is FAR lower than the death rate of any other illness.

The hype around this is so absurd.
