kitten potty ques

Thread Starter
I adopted an 8 week old kitten yesterday and it hasn't gone potty once since we got it. When should I start to worry? Is there anything I should do to help it? I have taken it and set it in its litter box a few times when it is meowing for no apparent reason, but still no potty. Any insight would be great.

Cats can hold it for a few days when stressed. Your kitty is probably still adjusting to their new home. I wouldn't worry about it yet. If, say, 3 days pass and nothing happens - then, I'd worry. But, the first 48 hours are such a huge adjustment period.

Also (not to worry you) make sure the kitty isn't peeing elsewhere. Sometimes, in a new place, they hide where they're going.

I have heard, and did use this method with sucess, that if you lightly rub your kitties bum with a warm damp cloth it will encourage her to use the litter box. I only had to do this a few times, and I'd rub lightly until kitty started scratching in the litter and would almost always go pee or poo. They both use the litter without fail now, a week and a half later. Apparently this is what mama does to the kitties... so just replicating nature a bit. I know, its a bit "ew"... but it works!
