The other piece to Vax or Not to Vax discussion - Page 2

Very important stuff.
Thanks for writing that, Tracy. It's gotten harder to not vax since the first post. All these things are going on behind closed doors. One day you think you're ok to not vax as long as you're homeschooling, and the next you find that in some states vaxes are required for homeschoolers, too.
Philosophical exemptions are going away, and religious ones are becoming harder to obtain.

i know, mamakay..it is hard..but hang in there... keep wiggeling through. The people I feel the most badly for are the moms/dads who don't want to vax and live in Miss... and West Virginia. those are two states with only medical exemptions.

sigh, if I were in Tennesee I would be worried cause I wonder about Frist and his home state... could have troubled times ahead.

Tracy,
I admire and appreciate more than words can express the amount of time and care you put into for us.

I am very thankful

and I wish I were your neighbor

I'm in Tennessee and it is scary. Frist is a very scary guy for NFL types like me.
I'm very uncomfortable with the "New Freedom Mental Health Comission" thing, as well. There's a big, yucky story behind that one, too.

Pardon my dust, folks. I know I brought up this thread from deep in the basement, but I wanted to make sure this link got on this thread.

Exploiting anxieties about avian flu, Republicans sneakily passed legislation right before the holiday recess that shields the drug industry from being held legally accountable when flu vaccines and other pharmaceuticals used to treat pandemic diseases cause death, disability or serious sickness. Majority Leader Frist attached it as a provision in a completely unrelated defense spending bill. Congress put corporate interests above the public interest and passed this unsafe, unfair, and unnecessary legislation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 45-page rider tacked on to the Defense spending bill conference report by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) is far more generous to drug companies than an earlier version, because it absolves drug makers of responsibility even for gross negligence or recklessness when making tainted, defective or deceptively labeled products. Worse still, legal immunity under the bill would extend to already available commercial drugs if they are used to prevent, treat or cure a designated epidemic or pandemic disease. The measure will reduce the incentive for drug makers to make safe pandemic vaccines or drugs, and will deter people from being vaccinated, Public Citizen warned today.

Tracy~thanks for the info, I missed it earlier. I have always wondered the same things and this thread just shows that my thinking was right, but I had never been able to back it up.

"One thread of reason, which is especially disheartening, is that many babies and toddlers developed ear infections, their doctors gave them antibiotics to treat the ear infections. The antibiotics ripped out the good flora in the intestines and then the next month the children received their MMR shot. Many of those children ended up autistic."

I found this particularly interesting. I never knew this. Thank you! Do you happen to have any links on this, by chance?

Kinda off topic, but my dh just told me that John Mccain might run for the presidential election in 2008. He also said he thinks he's "against the war" too....hmmm..thoughts?

Don't let the OP mislead about McCain. Since 2004, McCain has catered much more to the Bush base and funders than McCain fans thought possible.

In the same way Bush campaigned for a bipartisan, moderate, efficient Washington in 2000, McCain will appear much more "independent" than his contribuitors will actually allow.

Sadly, Big Pharm has so much money, that they have both parties in their pockets. There is no party for non-vaxers, only specific politicians are fighting the fight.

A more regulated Pharma industry is the only answer to fix some of these woes, but it is unlikely. You'll never hear, "Thank you for your campaign contribution, Merck. I promise I will try to regulate you and limit your profits now by protecting the people I should be serving."

please don't flame me for admiting i am not a democrat - like i said i have an open mind and am a 'work in progress' when it comes to my life views.

btw- i argree with the op that the vax thing is so much about $ for big business.
I just had to respond to this! I used to be a pretty die-hard democrat - now I'm just searching for a party that won't further disintegrate my civil rights. No flame from me!!
