Grain Free Meals Thread - Page 4

Holy yum. I just need to figure out time to do that type of prep work, though I bet that tastes as good cold as hot, so I could make lots and then have leftovers. I love leftovers, they save me.

This is the one that my DH got me for Christmas two years ago. Though I didn't think it was that expensive.

AAAHHHH!!! I'm getting sucked in!

I'm grain free, too.

Just want to say that I love the paleo cookbook. I have both and whenever I get into a rut, I just meal plan from that book and life is good again! I love all of the recipes!

My goal this week is to simplify...and spend less time on the computer, so I've gotta go!

I have seen the Paleo cookbook but didn't know if it was any good. I would love some fallback mealplans for when I am feeling lazy!

what's the name of the cookbook again?

I love this thread. Been lurking. I went grain free a couple of months ago for 3 weeks and lost 8lbs, felt awesome. Then something happened. I had no energy, headaches, and I felt that I was missing out on some great food. So, I fell off the wagon. I'm trying it again. Looking for easy recipes that taste good. I think I burned myself out on salads last time.

Found another one Grain Free Girl OK, just realized this girl doesn't do her blog anymore, last post was from 2007 but maybe there are some good recipes. I liked the eggplant, turkey sandwich.

For fast veggies processing, I use the julienne blade on my Family Grain mill. You can get serious work done quickly and the cleanup is a breeze. I use the same blade to grind nuts for flour. Works like a champ!

found this recipe for a sugar free fruit crumble- I am thinking of trying it- I think it might make a decent snack for me if I do a low gi fruit like blueberries or something and I need some more snack ideas.

We just had the most splendid breakfast... very simple too.

Beelers apple-cranberry uncured sausage with zucchini.
All cut into large chunks and slowly sauteed.

Mmmm.

Almonds

Does anyone worry about the "pasturization" of almonds used in almond flour? Or do they not pasturize them before making them in to flour? I know one of the treatments is a heat treatment but the other treatment has something to do with a known carcinogen. I don't want to freak out over nothing but was wondering about this today as I prepare to make some crackers.

Chlobo- I don't know about the pasteurization process of almonds. Only so much I can worry about and that is not on the list. I think of course it would be optimal to be true *raw* almonds soak, dry and grind yourself but that is not happening for me for time, energy and money reasons.

On the quick veggie prep I have bought precut frozen and fresh veggies before for a quick meal. I had sausage w/ a bag of frozen stir-fry veggies for b-fast for many mornings(ones without seasoning obviously). I am fairly quick with the knife though and can get a meal prepped fairly quick.

tonight is burgers and some homemade slaw- some fries for the family I think.

We're taking off to go fishing for awhile. See ya at the end of the week. Can't wait to hear how everyone is doing with this.

Chlobo, you inspired me to go off and read a bit about almonds. I found a wholesale site (anyone need 2200 lbs of almonds?) that discusses pasteurization. Since they don't specify, I think they use the gassing chemical except for the almonds they specifically say are blanched.

http://www.justalmonds.com/Pasteuriz...ion_ep_35.html

I am willing to go with the scary gassing chemical for now, probably mostly due to my ignorance. This place sells smaller quantities too, not sure about shipping prices, but their broken almonds (since I think most of mine are going into a food processor anyway) are intriguing.

mnt.mama have fun fishing!

last night for super we did up having the hamburgers(just grilled and topped w/ the slaw) and slaw- I made some sweet potato fries for me as well- very yummy!

Tomorrow I have NO idea for supper- something chicken- tuna salad for lunch- I haven't made it in forever(like to keep our tuna consumption down). Although I might do the grainfree dairy free pizza. I haven't made a pizza with the ricotta so I am excited to try that. Alright- one shouldn't be talking to oneself at almost 4 am! Pizza it is for tomorrow.

I am doing this crust recipe:
http://cavegirlinthekitchen.blogspot...leo-pizza.html

I will be doing a blueberry fruit crumble(recipe posted the other day) as a treat for lunch- we go to visit dh on Tuesdays for lunch.

You can get almonds that are really raw and unpasteurized from RawFromTheFarm.com. I can taste the difference.

But then don't i have to blanch them & grind them myself? What is blanching? And won't I have to take the skins off? This is so irritating.

tried that fruit crumble today- horrible- cannot recommend!

making the paleo pizza now- I sure hope it is ok as it was so easy as well. Crust is prebaking now and the "ricotta" is melding in the frig. I carmelized some onions and green peppers and as soon as dh gets home I will be making up the sausage- I am so annoyed I thought I bought plain pork but bought sausage w/ msg to boot. I guess dh will be eating sausage for breakfast this week!
