Facebook? Is this the right forum?

I am curious about facebook. I signed up because a group I am in was going to use it to stay connected, but I am lost. If I post something, does everyone automatically see it? And, someone posted something to my "wall". I want to respond, but just to her--how? And what is the "wall". I can't find anything on facebook that would offer help.

Facebook makes me feel so old and kind of stupid. Either there's a lot there I'm not getting or there's not much there, they've just spread it all out. I find turning on all your notifications helps a LOT so at least you can follow the link in your email and find the comments someone has left for you (after your comments, on your wall, in your photos, in your inbox...it's all so overwhelming!).

If you want to respond to just your friend, I THINK the easiest way is to go to your inbox, top middle of the screen (left to right it's Facebook Home Profile Friends Inbox) and just send her a message. No doubt there's some super top secret way to respond to just her on your Wall but I couldn't begin to imagine what it is.

wall stuff is public, if you want a private message go to your inbox and send one from there. you can change privacy settings at the top of your home page next to your name titled SETTINGS. On your home page is a running commentary of what your friends are doing, it's the same for them. i think under settings you can change what is announced to your friends on their home page.

Thanks, this is a very confusing medium for me. . .don't know if I really want to get used to it or not.
