Need to fade a bad hair color job?

I'm growing out my highlights. My natural color is a dark strawberry blond and I highlighted a pale, golden blond. So, after about 6 months or so, I had a very prominent ring around my head where the lower half was light and the roots much darker.

So, I went to the salon and asked them to dye my ends to match my natural color.

It was terrible. I ended up with ashy brown on the ends. It looked so bad

So, I researched and came up with a whole host of really harsh treatments to take the dark/ash out - none of which I wanted to do.

But, then I read about using Vitamin C and I tried it and it worked! It was amazing! I had washed my hair a couple times with Dawn dish washing detergent - I know, I know - it's terrible for the hair but, I was leaving for a family reunion in a few days. Well, the Dawn did nothing but, one treatment with the Vitamin C and I noticed a dramatic difference.

After 3 treatments with the vitamin C, all the ash was gone and I was left with very natural, very shiny, golden colored hair. It was fabulous. It washed out all the ashy, flat color. I can't recommend it enough.

Anyway, how you do it is this - you crush several vitamin C tablets into a fine powder (I used about 10 for my below the shoulder hair). Add your regular shampoo to the vitamin C and make a paste. Apply this to dry hair. You want to make sure you make enough to thoroughly coat your hair. Leave it on for at least an hour - longer is ok too. Then rinse and shampoo/condition as normal.

The first time I did it, tons of color washed down the drain. It was amazing. I had washed it several times with shampoo and dawn but, one wash with the Vit C washed out a ton of color.

Hope this helps someone

Fascinating... I don't color my hair, but this intrigues me nonetheless...

I wonder how this could translate to other issues with hair... like the summer "green" hair or product overload hair or super oily hair....

I really appreciate this. I've been, er, growing out my gray during my pregnancy and it looks like crap. The brown/gray hair without the dyed part below I think would be beautiful, but everyone kept telling me I'd have to grow it out. I'm for sure going to try this ASAP.

Thanks for posting this! I dyed my hair brown this week and it got way too dark. It was black. I rubbed about a tablespoon ascorbic acid into my hair with some water and it lightened it up to a decent med brown. The color is really even too. I was afraid it would get blotchy.
