Problems with garage sale find wool sweater

Thread Starter
I'm new to making recycled wool longies/shorties. I got several sweaters this morning. I washed them all in hot and when I was putting them in the dryer, one was shedding TERRIBLY (chunks and chunks in the washer). I put the rest in the dryer, and they've already been cut up. Is there anything I can do to save the other one? It's really cute... If I "shave" it, will it stop shedding, or is there really nothing I can do? Has anyone gotten a sweater like this before?

My recycled wool always seems to shed quite a bit at first, but I've only have one sweater ever get holy. But when I felt them initially, I know I'll never be that harsh with them again. Once they are sewn and in use, I use the gentle cycle and lay flat to dry, so I figure, once they survive the intial process, they should be good to go.

Do you think it is still usable?

I've had sweaters shed like crazy when I washed them. They were just fine when I unravelled them and used them for my children's afghans. I love to get flea market or garage sale sweaters for recycyling. Your sweater should be okay.
