when do threads close and why?

Thread Starter
just the other day i was remarking to my book club how much wonderful advice i had gotten from mdc and that i should post back when a suggestion has proved useful. so today i went to search for threads where someone had answered a question of mine and wanted to thank the person and describe how useful it had been.

but i found that the thread was closed! when do threads close and why? i can understand closing a contentious topic if things start to get repetitive and endless ... but otherwise, parenting is a long term activity and it is good for people on the board to know how things have worked out in practice.

Threads that have no activity close automatically after six months.

This is just to prevent bumping of really old threads....which can be awkward in some situations.

If you ever need a thread opened again please ask a moderator and they can help.
