This is for my statistics class. I need to do a small project so I'm comparing the income levels of homeschooling and public schooling families. Thanks for your help!

What if you are both? My dd will go half-time to public and half-time homeschool. Would you like our data in both or neither catagories?

I think it is funny that we public schoolers just voted, but the homeschoolers felt the need to point out problems with your project (cost of living, two income vs. one income, etc.)

You say you need something for a class, and we just give it to you. Heck, it's homework We help with homework. Your teacher wants you to get some stats? We'll give you stats. We are public school parents! Helping with homework is what we do!

The homeschoolers want to discuss it and turn it into a whole different project

To be fair, in my first poll, before I changed the brackets, someone in this forum pointed out the skew that would happen. Definitely more in the homeschool forum, though. Well, critical thinking is a good thing

I voted $35-$50000 which is the main reason we public school. If dhe made more money we'd home school all the way.

Hey we are one income public schoolers. :P My kids WANTED to be in public school (after two years of homeschooling.)
Uh, where do I fit in? I started out with the girls in public school. Then they were both in private school (with a good scholarship!). Then I had all 3 in private school (DS was old enough for K) but halfway through that year I began homeschooling DD2. Next year DD1 and DS were in private school and DD2 was HSed. Then last year I had both girls HSed and DS in private school.

Next year, DS will definitely be at home, DD2 will definitely be in public school (her choice) and DD1 will hopefully be in private school (if we can get a good enough scholarship) otherwise she'll also be in public school. HSing her for high school isn't a good idea for a variety of reasons.

So, um, do I count as a "public schooler" for the purpose of this poll, or should I not vote?

I send ds to a public school but I would definitely go private if I could afford it.

What income would you like our taxable income or our income that includes all of the nontaxable that we get?

Sorry to be a pain but I never know how to answer the question.

hmm, I suppose include nontaxable, because that's representative of money you can spend as well.

We are former homeschoolers, too. Last year my 10 year DD started school, and this year her 12 year old sister is joining her.

Yet another quirk in what was really a simple, straightfoward question.....Our income has about doubled in the years since I first considered myself a homeschooling parent (when DD #1 was 3 and we knew would homeschool). As the years have gone by, raises and promotions have changed things, so I wonder if the ages of the kids *could* make a difference is real, official poll (the older the kids, the more money the parents have).

Actually, it would be fascinating to see the stats comparing homeschoolers to public schoolers in a study that was carefully controlled. It might seem like homeschoolers would have to have more money to have homeschooling as a viable option, but we met so many families over the years making huge sacrifices to homeschool, and nearly all 2 income families use school, so I don't know that if it would work out that way.

I only know what DH makes before taxes. I suppose I could add up all his paychecks, (since he is salary) but then I might get depressed.

OMG. I shouldn't have done it.. but I did it anyway.... that bumped us down to the BOTTOM of the next lowest level. THE BOTTOM. I can't believe they take that much out in taxes, insurance, and misc. other crap a year.

I see I was reading that backwards. You did want it before taxes. There was no reason to go and depress myself.

I voted as a public schooler, since that is where my children attend right now. But we have been homeschoolers and private schoolers too. I'm never sure how to define our learning. I believe most of it takes place outside formal school (even when the kids attend full-time) which I think would make us homeschoolers, but I have been very firmly told by homeschoolers and unschoolers that I am much mistaken in that regard. I find the narrow-mindedness that some have on the subject is a little depressing, so I just continue on doing our thing and generally avoid discussing it (or anything else really) about homeschooling.

So count us in the ps group!

It is narrow-minded to consider that kids attending full-time school are not homeschoolers?
