help me knit an afgan!

Dh wants a knit wool blanket/afgan for Christmas. That is a kind of time consuming gift- so I need to start planning now. I have a large stash of odds and ends peace fleece that I wouldn't mind using up- but I am not opposed to purchasing some economical yarn either if it is for a super awesome blanket. I absolutely do not want to seam everything together though. That would suck completely.

Any suggestions and links?

I'm thinking of knitting this for dh. there is a lot of seaming but Ithink it's a great way to use scraps up. And it looks so cool...jsut a suggestion

hmmm- that one is cool.... The seaming doesn't seem like it would be too awful. I wonder how much yarn that reasonably use up... It seems like I have alot- but don't really want to have to buy more to finish up a scrap afgan- ya know?

Maybe pick up a couple skeins of a color that works with all the scraps you have, and it'll be a theme to hold it together? That way you wouldn't have to worry about not having enough. You can just sort of alternate scraps with the "main color" or use it every third stripe or something?

Ohhh- good idea! A few skiens of black would be just fine for that! That would be achievable! I also love the idea of doing more than 2 colors/block!

Ooh, another idea - you could use the "main color" for just the inner and outer stripe of each block. That could look pretty cool, too...

What about http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...stitch-blanket or http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...n-stitch-twist ? I think that would work well with using scrap yarn. And no seaming!
