Hey everyone!
After lurking for a few weeks, I felt I needed to finally introduce myself. I am a member of a number of other online discussion forums on a number of topics, ranging from graffiti to Low Carb lifestyles to Phish setlists. I stumbled across MDC while reading a thread on kombucha on another forum; someone there had posted a link to one of the kombucha threads here in the Traditional Foods section.
I have to say that I'm very impressed by MDC - it appears that overall this is a warm, welcoming, and respectful community, especially considering how many points of view are represented here. I must mention at this point that I have no children yet, and had never really been aware of how many approaches to parenting there are out there. I never knew anything about AP, GD, BF beyond infancy, etc (I'm picking up on abbreviations already!
). Just by lurking and checking out the different boards here, I feel as if I've found a whole new world. There's so much information here!
My fiancé and I are hoping to have children in a few years, and I'm grateful to have accidentally found such a treasure trove of information and opinion before we make that leap. We recently watched "The Business of Being Born" together, mostly to help me get over my total irrational fear of childbirth (it kinda worked, lol... I'm still pretty terrified as I cannot handle the sight of blood). The themes of the documentary have made a lasting impression on me, so when I came across MDC, I must admit that I was thrilled, to say the least.
Although I'm not a parent yet, I do try to incorporate a number of choices into my lifestyle which are represented here on the forum - we try to eat local and organic when our budget allows, we are making a transition to cooking more traditional foods, and I hope to grow much of our food when we can afford an apartment or home with some outdoor space. I hope that when we do have children, I will be able to BF, or feed the kids "from the tap", as my fiancé calls it, lol. Just seeing how much support is out there is so inspirational!
Well, I'm rambling at this point... I hope to become more involved on the boards here in the future; I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone here!
