looking for dress pattern

I am looking for a nice dress pattern to make dresses for my 2 and 5yos. I don't want to buy 2 patterns so I would like one that had both sizes 2T and 5. I would like it to have long sleeves and to use just regular woven cotton material. I have been searching and searching on sewingpatterns.com, I swear that site has the worst search feature of any website. Thanks!

I am looking for a fall/winter dress. I want long sleeves and I do not want it to be knit (I am not comfortable sewing with knits yet). I can't believe how many patterns there are out there for short or sleeveless dresses, it is frustrating. I am looking for a classic dress. I have a handmade dress that was picked up second hand and I want something like it (that tells you nothing ). It is long sleeved with cuffs and a button at the cuff, but I would be happy with doing elastic. It has a couple of buttons. Just really basic. It reminds me of the nightgowns I make for my girls (kwik sew 3423). I know the pieces I would need, yokes, collar, sleeves and skirt, but I am not good enough to do it without a pattern. The skirt is gathered a bit at the yoke to give a slight to moderate twirly effect. I would just use the nightgown pattern, but then it would look like, well, a nightgown Thanks for any help you can give me. I can't believe I can't find a pattern similar to what I have in mind.

ETA: I can take a picture of the dress if you aren't getting what I am saying. It is packed away, but I could dig it out.

Ok, this is crazy, I was just searching on Etsy and right after I posted my last reply I found something like what I was looking for, it is Simplicity 7283. I would just purchase it, but I really want something that I can make for both girls 2T and 5, do you think it is possible? Thanks again for your help. I am in a crazy hurry to get my fall/winter crafting done because with the new baby I won't get anything done in the fall

I don't have that exact pattern, but I have something pretty close. I'll get the #. I think the issue is how comfortable you are with pattern redrafting. You're either going to have to draft up or down. I think it's easy to go up in my opinion. The range for the big # is generally 1-4, and 3-8 so there's a bit of overlap, but not much. You could also check New Look (a simplicity company) the tend to have a bigger pattern range.

I have found a handful today that would work well with my 5yo, but the smallest they go down to is 3T, which would definitely be too big for my 2yo. It looks like I will have to buy 2 patterns. I wrote down the numbers of several patterns I liked, I now need to go back and double check to see if any of them are for the smaller size.

I am totally not comfortable redrafting a pattern...I am not that talented If you happen to find a pattern that would work for my 2yo could you let me know the number please?? Thanks!

Have you looked on You can make this.com? Also I did find a McCall pattern, I think the # is 4908. Or what about Oliver + S patterns. The size range is 2-5 and her sizing is really good and the directions are straight forward. The style is very classic too. I think you'd like the puppet tunic. It's very cute, plus it wouldn't be too hard to make it long sleeved.

Thanks for all your help. I think I may have found one that will do. It is McCall's 8404. It comes in sizes 2-4 and 4-6. I am going to have to buy 2 different patterns, but at least I found something doable. I will search around a little more, though.

ETA: I also found it in 7-10, so if I end up going with this pattern and really liking it I will be able to use it for a long time.
