who/when are you telling? - Page 4

I think we are going to wait until people start figuring it out.
Ummm...
Maybe I'm the odd one out, but it seems like so many of you are waiting til 10, 12, 16, 18, 20 weeks or whatever to share. I just wonder how. Won't you be showing by then?
It's not that I don't want to wait.. I'm only 7 weeks, but I have a HUGE belly that cannot be hidden or sucked in. I'm sure everyone I haven't told knows already. Who am I fooling? I want to wait, but is it weird to wait when I look obviously pregnant and everyone probably suspects anyways? Either that, or they think I got rediculously fat just on my belly in the past 2 weeks. Like I'm seriously ready for maternity pants.. have been doing the rubberband trick the past week.
So, are you guys thinking of altering your "telling" plans based on your physical appearance, even if it doesn't coincide with when you feel it's safe to? I'm just not sure what to do.

Oliver's Mama, it's probably not that noticeable to others. At least, last time I was pregnant people still didn't believe me when I was 20 weeks (and I had gained something like 20 pounds by then). But I've also noticed that most people are extremely reluctant to say anything (for fear it really is just extra weight, I guess) so we're not telling anybody until after my first OB appointment, which is also going to be an u/s. They want a new baseline cervical measurement just in case. Otherwise, my parents know and a few people at work know. And it'll stay that way for the next couple weeks.

I guess some people "pop" before others. I look ridiculously pregnant. Totally unhideable! Good thing I wasn't planning on keeping it a secret!

We told after we saw the little peanut with a heartbeat!

I have only told my husband and one friend at work. The only reason the friend knows is because she knew my period was late and kept asking me about it, and there's no way I can lie when someone is asking me directly! I think I will wait until the heartbeat visit to tell anyone else.

I think at this point, it's bloating more than "belly" so while I totally see something, no one else would know for sure enough to actually say anything (unless they're like... super rude). Well, bloating and the fat that I already had being moved around, but let's not discuss that.
I've been doing the rubber band since week five LMAO. I won't even buy maternity until I feel safe- at 12 weeks and see a heartbeat.
Unfortunately, I can't blame it all on a baby the size of a seed :-(

My daughter (10 1/2) guessed our secret so now the kids know.

I told my 4yo and now everyone knows

heh, well, i'm not showing yet, but i already have a bit of a belly i've been working on losing weight for a while, and belly fat is part of that. i'm kind of hoping my (continued) eliptical workout will be burning some tummy fat while i start to show from pregnancy. may not work though!

p.s. don't worry, i'm not doing extreme ab exercise or anything

I hate to be that person, but burning any fat during pregnancy releases ketones, which are toxic and pass through the placenta. Ketones are one of the things they test for with the urine dip at prenatal visits, and you can buy the strips and test at home if you are curious (I had to since I was on a controlled diet for gestational diabetes and gallbladder issues, which was making it hard to get enough fat in my diet.) Building muscle is a great goal, but try to avoid the mindset of burning fat.

My best friend knows and my parents know because my mom was here one of the times we were going for an IUI. I'm worried that she will tell everyone she knows, but so far, she's supposedly only told one of her coworkers who is TTC. They didn't know until 8 wks last time, and it's really getting annoying with her asking me how I feel all the time. I'm only 4.5 weeks, so I pretty much feel like I did last week and the week before.

I'm waiting until after the 7 wk u/s to tell anyone else. We waited much longer last time, but I doubt I'll make it long this time.

Work people still probably won't know until 12 wks.

As for exercise during pg, I continued to do a low-impact aerobics routine for a few weeks with my first. Didn't take long before that got really old. This time I'm just walking.

DH wanted to tell everybody right away, so most people knew a week or so after we found out. If it was just me, I'd probably be a little more private until the second trimester, but he is so excited, I don't mind.

My DH was excited and wanted to tell everyone too. I told my 3 year old right away, and she has told both of our families, so pretty much everyone knows now. I don't mind telling people right away so they know why I just want to lay around at home all the time, but I just hate telling everyone if I have a miscarriage...

DH wants to wait at least until we see a heartbeat since we just had a loss. He's cautiously optimistic. I want to tattoo it on my forehead.

So what kind of exercising should one do? If you've got fat, it would burn it regardless, no? IDK if changing the mindset would make it so it doesn't happen.
Plus, they say ab exercises (which isn't eliptical, but still) are ok through the first tri

You can build muscle without burning fat, as long as you are getting enough calories that your body does not go into fat-burning mode to get the energy it needs. A fat burning mindset is to burn more calories than you eat in a day; a muscle building mindset it to match the calories (focusing on protein), and do strength building/resistance exercises.

I was very active through my first two pregnancies, and am staying active during this one, and there are many ways to exercise safely while pregnant. Some books I would recommend:

I just wanted to add that i have lost weight at times during all of my pregnancies, mostly due to morning sickness, and mild weightloss isn't anything to panic about. Just don't intentionally limit calories (or workout excessively) to lose weight/burn fat.

At first I wanted to wait a few weeks before telling anyone, but I confirmed to myself (through 3 more pregnancy tests) this morning that I'm pregnant, and now that I'm convinced we just couldn't keep it in! So we told my in-laws today. We'll probably tell my mom and brother later this week. I don't mind the family and a few close friends knowing, but I don't plan on telling anyone from work or church until 12 weeks.

i dont have any restrictions on telling anyone.
i share when i find out, and i'll share if something bad happens.
but i understand some wanting the privacy, i'm just a really open, public person, so i dont mind spilling the beans early.

Me too, which is why it's killing me to respect DH's wishes on this and wait to tell people. He's lucky I love him so much.

no worries, ivymae, thanks for saying that! i have done so much reading and not finding much - so much lowest common denominator info out there! now i have a new direction to search. definitely something i'll discuss with my midwives. i don't plan to limit calories or good nutrition at all, just trying to keep from adding a lot of weight on! i'll check those links for sure - thank you

in the spirit of not derailing this thread, we're leaving town when i'm 8 weeks prego for almost three weeks, so that should make it easy not to tell friends and family til the 12 week mark i may be doing maternity shopping while we're gone! i'm already planning to leave room for some xtra pants in my suitcase!
