Yahoo! News- "Circumcision Doesn't Lessen HIV Transmission"

This is the first time I've ever seen Yahoo! news print anything that wasn't pro circ. http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20090718...ivtransmission

The headline is a bit misleading, though

They are still promoting circumcision as lessening the risk of uninfected men becoming infected. This study was about circumcising men already known to be HIV positive in the hopes preventing them from transmitting it to their partners. Apparently it doesn't - big surprise there, huh.

I understand the reasoning behind thinking that circumcision would lessen the risk of HIV to men, though I'm not sure I believe it yet. But I have no idea what in the world the logic was behind thinking that it would lessen the transmission from positive men to women. Anyone know what their reasoning was?

I don't know. It makes one wonder what people are thinking when they design these studies doesn't it?

Still, I think its good to be out there with this headline to make people think about what they're doing. There is the myth out there that circ can prevent cervical cancer in circed men's partners. This in in the same vein as that and dismisses it as bunk. I wish they wouldn't come to a different conclusion in the men's studies. Their numbers are statistically insignificant, bunk science, and dangerous. Some African men think that now that they're circed they have an "invisible condom"
