Storing the dirties at the beach house...

I'm staying in a beach house with about 387 other people. I'm getting pretty darned crunchy in my old age and would like to avoid using 'sposies as much as possible. I'm CD'd on vacation before, but never for an entire week, and never with others (many others, crammed) in the house.

I'm thinking i'll have to put the dirties into a pail and empty it into a garbage bag that i'll keep in my room (that i'm only sharing with my kids). But will that keep the smell in?

Hmmmm...any suggestions, or should i just skip it all and use 'sposies the whole time?

Oh, and we have a washer (but no dryer, just wash lines), so i can wash them, but i'd prefer not to b/c my housemates may be uncomfortable with that. i do have enough diapers for an entire week, regardless.

When I have brought my cds on vacation I just keep in them in a big hefty bag in the closet of my room. It works but as for the smell the bag will stink like amonia-It is pretty overwhelming after a couple of days of pee pee diapers.

I would probably use sposies the first half of the week, and then switch to cloth for the second half, so the stink and the laundry doesn't build up too much. For me going a whole week without washing would just be to disgusting (to my nose).

That said, I wouldn't care if others got ew'ed out about the washing machine- I would just go ahead and wash as usual and tell the others to stuff it.

Perhaps a hanging wet bag would be more convenient to use? I would do the wash too rather than waiting a whole week with smelly diapers. Perhaps you could run an empty rinse cycle with vinegar or something after your load to make everyone feel better?

My eyes are watering just thinking about a bag of pee diapers after a week...

I'd wash there and line dry. If the diapers are clean, so is the washer. Really people. If they really have a problem, run your beach towels through afterwards or something.

I know there are people out there who only wash once a week, but I'd be afraid my diapers would never get clean if I left them that long. Plus the stink.

I personally find that peed dipes stink less if they are not enclosed - the ammonia evaporates just fine and you don't notice a smell. But I don't leave poopy ones uncovered. Ick.

You could use flushable diaper liners to take care of most of the poo and then wash a couple times. The idea of using liners ususally convinces most people who are normally grossed out by the idea of washing their own...

Thanks for your responses. It's interesting the reaction i got for keeping dirty diapers for a whole week. I wash my diapers once a week. Because i have enough to last a week (i just use prefolds). Guess i'm weird.

I'm leaning towards 'sposies, the more i think about it. I don't want to wash and hang the diapers--for many reasons. And i'm concerned about days-old diapers in a garbage bag. In an un-air-conditioned house. In July. Ew.

The important thing is that i use cloth any other time. This will be my mantra.

If anyone has further suggestions, i'm all ears.

Thanks!!!
