We've changed schools and the kids will be starting next Monday. It's a charter school, with a modified, year-round schedule--longer seasonal breaks, and a 4-day week. The kids are very excited to begin!

4 day week?? that sounds nice!

This will be our 1st full year of year round and I think I will like it. Unless there is a bunch of snow days, last day is May 19! with 2 weeks off for fall break in Oct and 2 weeks off in April for spring break plus the traditional Thanksgiving and winter breaks plus all the other days added in.

So far so good, our big guy is in 2nd. Last year's 2nd grade classes only had 3 teachers but because his group has more students they moved some teachers around and he has a teacher who taught 1st last year, I think it will be nice since he does know her from playground and group activities. I really liked her when I saw her interacting with the kids last year.

Little guy, today was the day!!!! He enjoyed himself. I don't know if it's better if your child cries or just waves bye and says see you later. He did the wave and I was the one who got teary eyed on the way home.

I'm taking a break from forms, forgot how many there are from the beginning of the year! I did sign up for volunteering with PTA that really really sounds like fun! Last year we moved into the distric mid year and I didn't want to volunteer for anything until I got somewhat of a feel of what all the fairs and fun days were about.... back to the forms now!

Lightheart, that sounds similar to our new school schedule. Yes, no school on Fridays--love this--one less day of morning rush, and an extra day for fun and family stuff.

We have! My son started kindy last monday. They call it Kindergarten Academy. Its a new optional program they are doing this year. Its to give the kids who need it a head start to the year. (my son went to a waldorf/montessori inspired private school last year, so I thought he'd be pretty behind for PS 1, so he's in kindy)
Its only mornings, then in 2 weeks, he'll go full days when the rest of the kindys and elem. school start.
We just finished our first week of doing homework ever. Some of it was a bit difficult for him in terms of sitting still and focusing, and other stuff he said was "baby stuff". He brings home a new book each day that I read to him for homework, too. So far, he seems to like public school though, so I'm glad.
This week I think we find out who his teacher will be for the full school year.
