cover crops

I know many of our gardens are still covered in veggie plants but thinking ahead for tucking the beds in for winter... What cover crops are you planning?

I'm zone 6 and looking for something for the front flower beds, something that stays green through the winter or a nice brown that dies down well, not a perennial. For the veggie beds, anything but a perennial. Suggestions anyone?

I only do a cover crop in my veggie garden, and use a mix of fava beans and wheat. The mix is supposed to have vetch, too, but I left that out.
