Oh my lord, the noise level is making me CRAZY!!

Seriously, someone tell me how to turn his volume down!! I don't know what happened, but the day DS turned six, suddenly he was unable to do anything at less than maximum volume!

Generally, I'm able to tune him out, but today....Ugh! The constant stomping and jumping and flipping and flopping like he's some sort of kung fu warrior is making me lose my mind! I've tried suggesting other activities, I've tried suggesting he take it to his room or outside, I've tried flat out saying, "You have to stop doing that in here, it's driving me crazy!" And HE'S STILL DOING IT!! DH will be home from work at 4:30, and he's taking the kids to the park so I can get some things done around here...but this last hour is gonna be a lllloooonnnnnng one!

I heard that six would be challenging and moody, but nobody mentioned how stinkin' LOUD it was going to be!!!

I bought earplugs the other day for this same reason--I couldn't take the noise anymore and figured I'd give them a try.

That is when I get very insistent about them playing outside. I don't think there is anything wrong with "If you want to do X, please play outside. If you want to stay inside, please find something quiet, like A, B or C to do." Assuming, of course, that its not 110 outside or something. Or else its "Hey everyone, lets go to whereever!" -- somewhere that they can run and I can sit and watch or somewhere that is cool and quieter like a movie.

Boys will be boys Sounds like he just wants to express himself and is having a lot of fun! When I was a kid, my mom always complained about me and my sister being "too loud" and we always felt we were quiet. Every time we turned around, she was yelling at us to be quiet or stop doing stuff - which in our model of the world, was just having fun.

There's a few things maybe you could try... one of them being noise canceling headphones - listen to some soft, relaxing music. You may still hear him making noise, but at least you won't be driven crazy

Should my son one day yell and jump and do kung fu in the house, I'll probably join him and do the same thing. The way I see it, he can't do it in public, why not do it at home where he is in a safe and accepting environment? Sure, he could go outside - but then you gotta worry about his safety if you're not watching him. Sounds to me like your son wants to be a super hero! You could try playing with him in ways that require him to think in different ways to express his superhero powers. For instance, have you tried asking him to be a ninja? As you know, ninjas are known for speed and quiet so they aren't detected. You could try playing a game where he has to sneak up to you without being detected. Fun fun!
