Clean wet diapers smell like...

FISH! We had to line dry them b/c the dryer was taken and we have to leave. Is this from poor washing? Does the heat drying kill what would otherwise stink? I've done four washes of my own diapers (previously used service) and am wondering how often I'll need to pay for a second cycle to get better rinsing. I use purex free and clear and dipes have seemed to get clean enough with one hot wash (no options for extra rinse without paying for a second cycle).

it sounds like they are either not being rinsed completely, the water isnt hot enough (to sanitize effectively) or they are staying wet too long before they dry. I would try another complete rinse cycle (no detergent) and see if that helps and then line dry immediately (if you get full hot sun)

They did sit this time for about 3 hours since we had to leave earlier as well (should have done laundry this morning instead!). I wonder if I should just wash them all over again tomorrow.

No @ desitin. We occasionally use a tiny bit of a compounded cream that contains zinc oxide but it's rare and we've only used our own dipes for two weeks.

I always do a cold wash w/ Purex F&C and then a hot rinse. Make sure to do a good hot rinse to get all of the soap off. The sun should help, not hurt. Sorry mama!
