Kinda random, but do you have a Maytag Neptune washer/dryer?

We are thinking about getting one for our new house. but dh read lots of negative reviews online. People complained about mildew and having to scrub the rubber ring with a toothbrush and running bleach through once a month. Is this your experience?

Or, do you have a front loading systed you really like? Do tell!

I wouldn't buy a Neptune. It's not highly rated and I've heard really bad things about them. They were the first front loader.

Consumer Reports has a rating system where you can check them out. You have to pay for the info., but it's worth it since it's a big expense and you want to get a good one.

We just bought a Kenmore Elite- it's the top of the line Kenmore and still was less than the Neptune with a better warrantee. Consumer Reports rated it highly. So far we love it. It also has a child lock out button for the controls.

So far it gets diapers and clothes really clean with hardly any water/detergent.

I just wanted to say that I think most public libraries have Consumer Reports. At least ours does and I live in a little rinky dink town. We can't check them out though. Have to browse through it while at the library.

nooooo, don't do it!!! imo, they are AWFUL. and that's me being nice about it.

my mil bought one and we lived with them for about 9 mos so i had to use the thing. urgh. first, it doesn't get things clean. second, it takes foooorrrreeevvveeerrr to go through a cycle. i would put laundry in and 9 days later i would still be waiting for it to be done. and the load size? this thing was not meant for cloth diapers at all. i couldn't do more than one day's worth at a time. you can see how this would be a real problem for a family of 5. yeah, it uses less water but at the expense of some very important factors. not to mention, i hate to think what a repair would cost on one after the warranty is up.

otoh, i just bought a kenmore 80 series heavy duty super capacity plus washer and i it. it is quick, it gets stuff clean and you can fit a ton of stuff into it. i think it was around $300 to $400, we got it on sale at sears. i figure if you're going to fork over a huge amount of money (or throw yourself into debt like we do:LOL ) you deserve a good product. good luck washer shopping.

mamathistle, we had our Kenmore heavy duty large capacity top loader for 16 years! It didn't have probelms until the last year. I did do many loads of diapers in it, too- it was a very durable machine.

That's part of the reason we went with another Kenmore (that and the Consumer Reports rating) when we went to a FL- we also have a 16-year-old dryer (Kenmore) that's going strong.
