How much sleep does your 4yo get?

DS had been really hard to get to bed on time lately and I'm wondering if he's just going to start going to bed later. He used to sleep from 7:30 to 6:30. In the last couple weeks, he started getting up at 7:30 but won't go to bed till 8:30 or 9. Even then its a huge battle. Could he just need less sleep than before?

Well, dd has never needed as much sleep as "they" say, she's almost 5, but not sleeping any less than she did a year a go- she gets around 10 hours on average.

My 4 year old is about 11 hours but does get by on 10 now and then.

Close to eleven hours on average. She's fine with ten or ten and a half, but anything less, and watch out!

11 is probably what's NEEDED here and does not always necessarily HAPPEN with summer. It did in the winter. 11-12 was EZ when it was dark out. Now, he NEEDS 11 I think and really *gets* 10 or so mostly.

My dd (4) has less sleep that my 6yr old. She'll sometimes play in her room beyond going to bed and a lot of times gets by on 10hrs. Ideally she really needs an extra hour and sometimes will get it, but not consistently.

DD is a little over 3.5, and she needs 10 hours. If she get 9.5 hours she'll be okay but will start having trouble closer to bedtime. I usually try to get her to bed 13-14 hours after she wakes up in the morning.

My almost 4 year old gets 10 1/2 hours. She goes to bed to bed at 8pm and wakes promptly at 6:30am every morning. On my real lucky days, she wakes when DH is showering (5:30am) and is a total bear by the end of the day.

Mine goes to bed anywhere from 10 p.m. to midnight, and wakes right around 7-8 a.m. pretty much every day. She's always been this way, not needing much more than 8 hours or so of sleep.

She doesn't nap.

Right now the bedtime is about 9 and I woke her before 8 today.

I prefer an earlier bedtime but she shares a bedroom wither her younger brother and older sister so bedtime involves some commotion and it is still light at 9 so there is some goofing after we leave the room.

I only wake her if there is a reason we need her up but she does usually have breakfast about 8-8:30 so it was not unusually early for her.

She has not napped in forever and keeps busy all day long.

My daughter just turned 5...she is generally in bed at 8:00...SOMETIMES 8:30. She wakes up at 7:30 or 8 in the morning.

She usually doesn't take a nap...only if she's really tired from either staying up late or an exhaustive activity.

My daughter turned 5 in March but since age 4 or so we find that her best sleep is 11 hours. That said, she is quite the bed time/sleep resister, and now that she has to be at her summer program early (she had been in afternoon PreK), she is getting around 10 to 10 1/2 and seems to do fine. She gave up napping before she turned 2 1/2.

My 3.5 yr. old gets 10-11.

My 4.5 yo DD goes to bed around 9:30-10 and gets up around 7:30-8. So about 10 hours. She does not nap.

DD, 4.5, goes to bed between 9:30 and 10 and gets up at about 8. She's also never needed as much sleep as 'they' recommend. Neither of my kids has every followed the 'sleep rules'...going to bed earlier was a nightmare around here.

10-12 hours, averaging about 11.

Bedtime is 9-9:15 and she generally wakes up about 8:15-8:30.

My DD is 3.5. She sleeps 10-11 hours, but can get by on 9. Sometimes she still sleeps 12, but it's usually after a 9 hours night. If she goes to sleep before 9 she usually wakes up after a couple of hours and wants to play, essentially treating it like a late nap. Her bedtime is usually 10 or 10:30 and she gets up about 9:30.
It's easier to move her bedtime a bit earlier in the winter when it's dark sooner and there are piles of leave and then snow to play in.

My 4 year old dd probably averages about 12 hours.

Most days up at 6am. If she takes a nap (1-2 hours about 5 days/week) she goes to bed around 8:30-9pm. If she doesn't she'll go to bed around 7pm.

I think something might be up with him-maybe developmental? He didn't go to bed until 9:00 last night and was up at 6. Although he came over to my room in the middle of the night (rare for him) and its much lighter in the morning there.

DD 4 is sleeping about 10 hours a day, either all at night or a short night and a nap.
