Ayurveda question

OK, it seems like there are a few people with some experience with this modality....I know a bit as far as postpartum care is concerned, but what I really want to know it: My dd seems to need to get pitta back in balance, she is dry and inflamed a lot of the time (eczema), is very active and squirmy, has a hard time relaxing.... I wonder what foods I should be using, what spices I can feed her (she can't tolerate any sort of chili, it makes her break out) any teas she should have. She's a great eater and used to complex flavors. Thanks!

Wow, that's a great site. I'll have to take a longer look. People can have Pitta nad Vata issues at the same time, right? It's been a long time since massage school when I learned all this stuff.....

She's 28 mos, and a little bit. She eats food and nurses for fun. She's allergic to nightshades and citrus/ acidic fruit, and ??? Seems to have a hard time when the weather is warm and dry, almost always has cool hands and feet. She poops every other day when we're lucky. Umm....Tall and thin body, not much fat on her. (takes after daddy)

We've tried a lot of alternative treatments, dh is quite the sceptic these days, after homeopathy failed. (OK, her nasty cradle cap cleared up after the first treatment, but the eczema remained....)

I'm just thinking, since I use a lot of these spices already, that maybe I can do it mindfully and help her calm down a bit....

I know some about Ayurveda, but more about Chinese Medicine (I am a practioner)... I'd say avoid giving her cold drinks and foods (they are hard on wee ones digestion!)... go for warm foods and drinks...avoid bananas, juice, dairy, eggs, wheat, and too many sweets.
Mild spices such as anise, licorice, cinnamin, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, cumin, small bit of clove, can be very helpful...
you could make dairy-free rice pudding w/ these spices, or indian pudding (made from cornmeal).
other good food choices- oatmeal w/ cinnamin, soaked prunes, steamed vegis, stirfried vegis w/ ginger, ginger tea, mochi, hot whole grain cereal, fennel tea, applesauce (warm) w/ spices, curried lentils, black bean soup w/ cumin & cilantro..
go easy on the soy, as well.
Theree's a great seasoning called Chinese 5 Spice Powder- it has some great spices that are good for digestion. As well as the Indian spice mix- Garam Masala.
Good luck!!!
