expired flour?

Does flour expire? I know this isnt healthy but I have some boxes of cake mix but they expired in February. I remember reading an article that if you used expired Bisquick that it could kill you because some how spores develop after expiration, but I cant find the article now. Do you think this would carry over to cake mixes as well? I have a pretty big cake to make this week and didnt want these cake mixes to go to waste! Would anyone have a yummy butter cake recipe?

It's not the flour in the cake mix that's liable to have expired. Most likely it's the oils, which may have gone rancid.

As for a great butter cake:

2/3 c butter, softened
1 3/4 c sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 c flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 c milk

350F. Grease and flour 13x9x2 inch pan or 2 9-inch rounds or 3 8-inch rounds.

Cream together the butter, sugar eggs and vanilla until fluffy. Beat 5 minutes on high, scraping bowl occasionally. On low, mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk. Pour into pans.

Bake oblong 45-50 minute, layers 30-35 minutes or until toothpick test comes out clean.

I agree... it's not the flour, it's the oils in the mix that can go rancid. Plus, the baking powder can lose its 'oomph' over time, too, preventing the cake from rising properly. I probably wouldn't use it. JMO.
