Disgusting article from Time Magazine about BRU and Medela Price Fixing.

Medela had price fixing before they were in BRU, if I remember correctly. That's why I bought an Ameda.

Makes me happy I bought the Ameda.

Either way, you're screwed. If you buy the Medela, you're supporting a price-gouging greedy corporation. If you buy the Ameda, you're supporting Hollister, the manufacturers of the Plastibell circumcision device. Maybe with the next kid I'll suck it up and rent one from the hospital, even though I'm birthing at home.

While I don't think it's right, at the same time I think BRU is the problem here. I can't blame a company for fearing another company that sells 50% of their products.

Ameda is actually now owned by Evenflo. Before Evenflo bought the company they became WHO code compliant. Ameda is extemely conscientious of all of these issues. Medela is constantly being questioned for these types of issues. BTW, to me buying an Ameda is a no brainer. The products are cheaper(though just as durable) and they have a closed system. Ever see a Medela with mold in the tubing? I have, in my friends Medela pump tubing that was being used to feed her 26 week preemie! :

But is Ameda still manufactured by Hollister? Hollister produces the Plastibell. I'd rather use a manual pump and spend hours every day pumping than support the mutilation of baby boys.

Ameda is no longer affiliated with Hollister. It is owned by Evenflo.

Hygeia is another option. They are a new WHO code compliant company and are getting a lot of attention within the lactation community.

Avent?

SIL has a double electric avent that just pours milk out of her. I will inherit it for a fee of half price (I'll give her more than that though). Anything thing I should know about the AVENT company?

I was going to mention this company. Here's their site: http://www.hygeiababy.com/tcg.php

They had a table at my state's LLL conference and the spokesperson was GREAT. They are trying to get a contract with the WIC program and he was very knowledgeable about the program and some of it's issues. We talked about the fact that we think they should issue a breastpump to each participant and not do formula without a prescription for at least 6 months.

Hygeia is also compassionate to low-income moms down on their luck. Just sayin'.
