So excited! More ?'s post #11

Since there is nobody IRL to share my excitement, I figured I'd post here! I am not due until November, but I THINK I have almost completed my NB stash. :

Here's what I have (or is on its way):

36 Indian prefolds (may be a lot, but I'd rather have too many than too few)
3 one-size fitteds (Motherease)
5 Newborn covers (Proraps, Thirsties)
2 one-size covers (Blueberry)
a couple of Motherease liners
a few doublers

What I haven't ordered yet are:
a couple of wool covers for nighttime
a BG Bamboo one-size fitted (want to try)

Anything I'm missing???

That is exciting. I love the BG bamboo fitted. You'll have to let us know what you think of everything once the baby arrives!

You really are on the ball with this one. I too am expecting our frist LO in November. I'm hoping that mine get bought from our registry.

The 36 PF's that you have, are all of them newborn or what size did you buy?

i would add some cloth wipes to that

but that is just me, i am due in september and you are ahead of me

Yes, these are all the Infant size up to 15 pounds. Is that right, or should I have bought a larger size? I figured I'd get the initial stage out of the way, decide what works/what doesn't, and move up from there. I'm pretty sure I'll be a diaper changing maniac during the first bit, so 36 seemed reasonable. Plus, this way I don't have to do laundry QUITE as often!

The Bamboo BG looks great! I figured I'd start with one and order more from there.

Cloth wipes, a wet bag, and maybe some cd-friendly bottom lotion (Kissaluvs?) should probably be on the list, too. Maybe I'm not as close as I thought!

Since we have a lot of "baby gear," I'm finding it fun to do some sort of shopping/organizing, and diapering took precedence since it's totally new to me! I also bought my baby carriers...but that's for another forum. Any more ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Sounds like you are doing great! I just completed my stash and I'm due in 3 weeks.

I was going to add wipes and wetbag, but sounds like you've already added them to your list.

How about diaper pail/storage container? Thought about detergent?

Enjoy your pregnancy!

That is the standard infant size, DO NOT buy the next size up (premiums) until your kid needs them. Premiums are huge and we still do not use them during the day (dd is almost 15 months old). Infant size will still fit nicely trifolded in a medium sized cover. This also prevents you from being married to one system ~ you may change your mind about prefolds & can then try something else when your baby grows. 36 is a great number; Ive got two in cloth and still use my original 36 + 12 premium prefitteds!

not to be a wet blanket, but....do you not have anything smaller than an infant prefold? Have you tried fitting it into your NB size covers? i know i seems wasteful, but newborns really do better with newborn size diapers, either miniature fitteds/pockets/AIO's, or preemie/newborn prefolds. Also, 7 covers would be not quite enought for me....my babies, in the newborn stage, tended to have BF poos at every feedingm which was like...46376476 times per day, LOL! And the bf poo always gets onto the cover, so I was changing covers almost as frequently as i changed prefolds. So 7 covers was maybe a days worth at the outside. but isuppose that has a lot to do with how you prefold and how your kid poos!

wah..i want new dipes...not a new baby, LOL, just new dipes!

I think you need to get some newborn prefolds, the infant ones would be HUGE on a newborn!

I can definitely buy some smaller prefolds. DS was a 9 pound baby who came 3 weeks early, and this one seems to be growing like him, so I was thinking this size would be my best guess for appropriate...butI'm not opposed to getting something smaller.

I have tried to fit the Infant prefolds into one of the Blueberry covers on it's smallest setting onto a bear (I was giving dh a demo), but I haven't tried in the NB Prorap.

I appreciate the advice - I need as much as I can get!

Okay, so I finally got around to looking to add smaller prefolds for the NB stage, and I'm confused all over again.

What I have for prefolds:
24 Infant Indian prefolds from Cotton Babies. They are marked for newborn-15#. The only size down in the Preemie size from 4-10#.

12 Infant Chinese prefolds from Cotton Babies. I don't see weights marked for these. The only other choices were Regular and Premium, so I was thinking these were the smallest.

Should I get something smaller than what I have, or are these sizes okay?

On a different note (because I'm addicted to buying diapers now!), I was thinking about getting a few Kissaluvs 0 for my beginning stash. Knowing I have all this other stuff already, would 3 be sufficient, or should I look at more? Also, I'm just curious about the diapers with the cute colors - if Baby usually needs a cover over the diaper, why do they make the diapers so darn cute?

Yep I would definitely get the preemie, 7 pounds is average. Even my newborn sized prefolds and AIO's were huge on my little on the first weeks! Next time round Im adding some preemie sizes to the mix, Idont mind if they dont get a lot of wear, its worth it for something that fits comfortably when they are so tiny and brand new.

I'm going to completely disagree about buying newborn prefolds... I was actually going to ask if you had any size small covers! DS was 9lbs5oz, and only fit his newborn covers for the first week or so. We used infant prefolds from birth and they would have fit him til about 6 months. (He was a chunky baby.) I never had any problems with them, and can't see how they would cause a baby problems? :

Also, they aren't available in my neck of the woods, so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

ETA: Some places (Green Mountain Diaper) sell newborn prefolds, which so far as I can tell only fit to about 10lbs, and seem like a huge waste of money unless you have a tiny preemie. My LO never found the infant sized prefolds to be uncomfortable, and I'm really not sure how they could be? They were soft and nice and a bit bulky, but not HUGE, just a little big.

It's just a matter of preference, and baby's size, really. I'm expecting #2 to be under 7 lbs, like his brother, and know that I want newborn prefolds because infants will just be too big and bulky on him. Ds1 even swam in the newborn clothing that we took to the hospital!

So, infants will work, just if the baby is small, they might be on the bulky side.

When you've got a baby over 9 lbs, that's definately a different story! Then you would just start with infants, and most babies would fit into the one size diapers that are out there...

I guess I'll hold off until toward the end. Ds was almost 9 lbs. and he was a few weeks early. I've not gained as much weight this time around, but I still anticipate a baby around 8-9 lbs. Then again, who knows?
It definately is a matter of preference.

This will be our first one so I have no idea how large or small a baby we'll be expecting. Having said that, I find that $21 for a dozen newborn prefolds is not a bad deal. Plus, remembering that babies will lose a little bit of weight after birth and that the newborn prefolds can later be used as inserts for pocket diapers or just as extra absorbency when in the infant prefolds, I think it's well worth it for us. Weigh your options and see what makes the best sense.

we've found a million uses for our GMD infant prefolds since dd outgrew them. I really liked having diapers that fit her well in the beginning. She was a tiny thing though and they fit her for about 3 months. Again, every baby is different. But, just wanted to add that they are unlikely to go unused even after they are outgrown.
