Ours both took about 18 months. That was from China back in the days when it was much faster than today.

The adoption triad (plural) encompasses a huge variety of people with many different preferences, attitudes and experiences, so it's not surprising to me that some people will or won't like particular phrases.

We first contacted homestudy agencies and gathered info from placement agencies in January 2005. DS2 joined our family (from Ethiopia) in November 2005.

We started our homestudy process in September 2008. We were licensed in January of 2009. Now we're waiting for a match.

Lollybrat, I don't feel like finalization is the end of the journey by any means! But it's the end of the "paper pregnancy" part of it and I think that is what the OP meant. It is a lifelong journey for all of us for sure.

Oh how exciting! Congratulations! I hope the wait is short!

It was about a year for us. Both times. the first time was funny because once we had our home study done and finally got on the list it was so close to 9 months. We found that ironic.

Started paperwork and training May 2009.
Became licensed foster parents Nov. 2009.
Current placement Jan 2010.
Almost a year later now and no TPR, and obviously no adoption finalization yet.
Still looks good for us to adopt. We might end up with some of his siblings too.
