where are you giving birth?

okay i know this is CRAZY EARLY, but we have been thinking about a homebirth for ages before we even starting TTCing. i am just curious if anyone else already has any thoughts about where their are birthing and why

Oh, I'm thinking! We did a homebirth when we lived in California that we paid for out of pocket. Now we're in Florida where it's not nearly as common and we can't afford out of pocket.

So Plan #1 is to see if the hour-away birth center that also does homebirths can become a provider under our insurance. The insurance won't cover homebirth, but they could cover the prenatals, and then we'd just pay for the actual birth out of pocket.

Plan #2 is to use the birth center that's 20 minutes away and in our plan. But with how fast my labor with DD was (3-4 hours), there's actually a bit of a risk that I wouldn't make it in time (if DH was working, had to get my parents to come over in the middle of the night, then drive me there, etc)

And we REALLY REALLY want a homebirth. So I'm hoping that #1 works out. We're working with their insurance gal now, and we're going to interview them next week.

Because I am high risk, no midwife will take me on for an out-of-hospital VBAC, and I am not comfortable doing an unassisted home birth since I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type II...

so my options are to either 1. schedule a repeat cesarean (NOT an option for us at this point, and will NEVER be unless there is absolutely no other way to have a healthy live baby) or 2. go to the Maternal and Infant Care Clinic at the University of Washington where they specialize in high risk women and be attended by a myriad of health professionals and have a midwife for labor and delivery.

guess which one we are choosing!

hmmm. good question!
(i'm wondering, should i stay in the april DDC seeing as my EDD is april 1st? lol

homebirth, i hope...not sure...

It will be at one of two hospitals, but I'm not sure which one yet. The birth center by us doesn't do VBACs : and homebirth isn't a good option for me this time. Both of the hospitals I'm considering have jacuzzi tubs and one does water births, and one of them is the hospital where I had DD. The one that does water births is also on the campus where DH teaches, so it would be convenient for him to run over for appointments (or to watch DD while I go). They also have two midwifery programs that deliver at the hospital, and DH has worked with several people in the midwifery program there which is nice for several reasons. Either way, I have a ton of questions for the practices I'm considering and their answers will determine what we decide.

Home birth all the way!

We had one with our first and If all things are good to go, there is no question.
It was such a rewarding experience for me the first time around...and I know that there was not a second that I was away from my baby or wondering what was going on. I was there and present and so was my DH.

We'll be doing a hospital birth. I would love to go for a homebirth, but had hemmoraghing after the birth of DS2 that was really severe. DH is too nervous about it happening again (though things went well with DS3) to be on board with a homebirth.

We will plan for a homebirth. I had one with my first. My second was born intervention free in the hospital because of thick meconium when my water broke and that was fine too, believe it or not!

Homebirth for the third time. They've both gone great, in fact DD2 was born at grandma's house because she came in a matter of 3 hours. We live an hour and a half from my mom so we didn't have time to get home.

Hospital for me. Its a new one in town so I am excited to see the birthing rooms.

Hospital, just not sure which one. I've got very few midwife choices, so I need to figure out what is covered by my insurance and go meet some people. Either way, I'm driving 40 minutes, since the hospital closest to me doesn't have midwives that deliver :-(

I'm planning a homebirth...gotta call some midwives as the one I used last time moved too far away. My first was a C/S, last 3 have all been born at home.

I had a great experience birthing DS in a hospital-based birthing center and hope that I'll be giving birth to this one there as well! But DS came 11 days late, and just a couple of weeks after his birth the BC policy was changed-you can't birth there past 41 weeks now. So I guess I'll have to be open to whatever happens.

The plan is for a home birth (possibly a stand alone birth center, dependant on insurance coverage) That was the plan with our first pregnancy, but I risked out a little shy of 42 weeks and had to deliver at the hospital birthing center with an OB. Praying to get the dreamed about water birth this time around!

we're trying out a homebirth this time. we've been thinking about it before we got pg too though and from what i've seen you have to get into these midwives early as many don't take a lot of clients and theres 2 or 3 other moms that i KNOW are pg and due a little before me!
