rashy butt!

Help please! I've been cloth-diapering for 5 years (I'm on my 3rd kid) and we've never had a rash like this before. The pedi says its yeast. My poor gal was in fuzzi bunz, then she got this horrible rash. I pulled out all my old hemp pockets and knitted soakers and the rash cleared up for a while but then came back. Now she's been in disposables for a few weeks, but I really really want to get back to the cloth!

We're using an anti-fungal on the rashy area (which seems to get better and worse mostly depending on the weather (hot=bad) and the doc says to use it 3x daily for 2 weeks to really totally clear it up. In the mean time, what do I do with my dipes? I would really like to go back to the fuzzibunz. I've never dealt with anything like this before? Should I boil them? Bleach them? hang them out in the sun? What about the stuffers?

Help!
Thanks. J

My one month-old just got a yeasty diaper rash. I've been researching nystatin and cloth diapers to see what to do. I'm doing prefolds and covers right now. They say to use some type of flannel liner. Anywhoozle, in my research I found that to treat cloth diapers, wash them in the hottest possible water. Add a 1/2 cup of vinegar to the final rinse and dry in the sun. If sun drying is NOT possible, use the hottest setting on the clothes dryer.

Someone who's actually been through this before might also have some good advice. HTH

this whole line called Homestead Company..i was a nanny for the founders family when i was first pregnant with my son. I got used to using the products on her children and got comfortable with using them and the outcome...and when i gave birth to my DS..and experienced some rash problems..i grew to SWEAR by the diaper wipe companion and the oil as well!! they worked wonders..i to this day (DS is 3 and a half) suggest it to friends and get it for them as gifts for baby showers!! its great

I would strip everything you've used - cloth dipes, liners, inserts, wipes, etc. Wash them and do a hot rinse with Dawn or something to strip and do a few hot rinses until the suds are gone. And sun too! It's amazing what the sun can do.

I'm going to admit to bleaching my dipes when DD2 had yeast. We'd been using BGOS, prefolds, and some fitteds. I ran a warm wash with about 1/4 cup of bleach and then one with detergent and then a ton of rinses. Dried on hot, hung outside, haven't had a problem since. TBH, I just didn't want to mess around, my poor baby's bottom was raw.

Also, the Dr gave us some yeast cream samples, unfortunately I can't remember the name. It was about 10 days worth (2 sample tubes) 2x a day. Cleared the yeast right up and didn't seem to irritate her at all.

Hope it clears up for you!

i hate yeast!!

we've been dealing with a yeast rash for over a month!!
we did the prescription cream (nystatin) and refilled it a couple times too. DS's rash would get better and worse and finally got so bad there were little cracks and a bit of blood! also gave him the oral nystatin and even fluconazole (he had the white spots in his mouth too).
anyway... the thing that is FINALLY working is GSE diluted (like 6 drops in about 4oz water) as a wipes solution and coconut oil on after that. no fruit or anything sweet. and i'm taking some GSE as well. he still has some pink areas but it is looking better than it has in ages.

meanwhile, our poor diapers are suffering from all the cream. he was in disposables for about 2 weeks but there is a lot of buildup since we were using cloth before that.
yesterday i washed normally. then another wash with vinegar. then another plain water wash. all of them were super hot wash and cold rinse. and we're STILL repelling water.

so i guess i will be buying some Dawn? is that going to work better for stripping than other brands of dish soap?

good luck jgale and pearl2 with your LOs!!

I washed all my nappies on 95 degree c and hung them to dry in the sun (at every wah until we had been clear for a while) People also suggested ironing them as the heat kills the yeast spores

Good luck it can be a bugger to get rid of!
