I have beans!!!

Baby green beans, that is.

I swear, this morning there were NONE. I have about a dozen green bean plants (Provider), they're still pretty small but started flowering a week or so ago. Just a few flowers at first. The last couple days that's become TONS of flowers, and they're so pretty! I didn't realize they were such a lovely lavendar purple colour.

This morning I did my garden rounds, pulling weeds, filling in squirrel holes :, checking if my broccoli is throwing up a stalk yet (nope)... I'm sure that I would have noticed the baby grean beans.

We were out for the day. Suppertime, I do another garden check and WHAT THE HECK IS THIS? Is that a teeny little green bean? It sure is! :

And... another one. And another one. And a... wow, a pretty big one. And a teeeeeeeny tiny one. And that's just one plant... Checking the other plants I have TONS of little tiny baby green beans!! :::

I just had to share the excitement lol... So far all I've been able to harvest is greens... leaf lettuce, romaine, spinach, and herbs. Everything else takes much longer. I do have a few baby tomatoes, and lots of flower blossoms which should bloom within the next week or so, so in a few weeks I'll be doing the same tomato-dance as today's green-bean dance.

OH and I also have two kidney bean plants, and they have pods too!!! Pretty white flowers on those babies.

Congratulations! I share the excitement, green beans have been my most satisfying, productive crop in the garden this year. We've eaten them with dinner about 5 times so far now. The ones I miss picking when they're at their best size for eating I'm leaving to mature and dry to save seed. You are going to love how great they are fresh, grocery store green beans are dry and chewy and flavorless by comparison.

We grow Provider beans. Get ready! They have lived up to their name for us. :

Thanks!

I'm especially curious about the kidney beans. I just planted two, as an experiment, to see if the yield is enough to be worth all the bother (I'm guessing I have to dry, shell, cure, store, whatever... a bunch of steps before I can use them for chili or curry heh). So far, they look exactly like the green beans except for the flower colour lol...
