First night with puppy - help!

Well, pup is home!
She's beautiful; very cuddly and sweet - We are all in love.
Only problem is its bedtime now and she will not pee or poop! She's hardly gone since we picked her up (at 4pm). I don't know what to do!
Poor dh is outside now trying to get there to go before we crate her for the night (or part of it anyway!)
Any suggestions?

How old is the pup? You'll have to get up anyway at night if she's a few months old. So, at worst, you'll just be getting up one hour or two hours from now to check if the pup has to go.

Right now, it's probably all the excitement of a new environment. Some pups can hold it awhile due to the excitement.

I'd crate, and then check again in an hour. Which, I know, isn't fun when you want your sleep. But, the last thing you want is for her to pee in the crate!

Yeah, that's what we did. We put her in her crate at almost 12. Took her out at 1, no luck. Ten again at 2 - still no luck. Finally at 3 or so her yips started sounding more urgent so we tried again - jack pot! Then I took her out again at 5 so that some of us could get some sleep. She went back in at 5:30 and fell asleep till 8 - Bliss! We have a very wakeful pup with what seems like a very big bladder capacity!

What kind of puppy is she?

How's it going?

Dogs who are socially sensitive will hold their pee until they come across the "potty area" where it smells like pee. Our new puppy wouldn't use certain parts of the the yard because it didn't smell like pee.

Has another dog peed in your yard before?

I'm not sure. We have never had a dog before. We do have some friends who bring their dog over sometimes. I know he's pooped there but I'm not sure about pee

Do any of you have any opinions about those posts that are supposed to attract dogs to pee on them? Do they work for females?

We have a black female standard poodle BTW! She is 8 weeks old. We are still debating names!

You can always ask your breeder, they might have some tips for you.

I haven't used the Pee Post but have been tempted to put it in the front yard to keep neighbor dogs from peeing on my daughter's bike.

If you try it, I'd love to hear what you think of it.
