NOW what!!!????

OK, so- It is I of the 'I love my Disana wool shorties'.

Now, suddenly- Babe is getting a red bumpy rash where the wool gets wet and touches his skin! We're talking toxic looking, raw, makes him cry when I need to wipe it.

I am so at a loss about this little guy and his sensitive skin! I don't know what to do!

How wet does the wool get? If properly lanolized and the dipe is absorbent enough, it shouldn't get very wet at all... and I'm thinking he's not getting a reaction from the wool when it's dry, right? Also, did he have this reaction from the start or is it new... could it be that the wool has some bacteria or something that is causing the rash, and it's not the wool itself?

My other suggestion would be to find a wool soaker with wider leg holes that doesn't actually touch his skin... I have one like that, I think it's a Rainbow Waters. But we have skinny thighs here.

How often/how do you wash it, Heidi? Maybe we can problem solve...

My kid is really sensitive, too. i feel your pain.

: Thanks! He is SOOO sensitive, if the Detergent is not washed completely out of the diapers he gets a rash. If I don't wash and dry everything on HOT he gets a rash. I had to start using Borax in my rinse water to get them clean enough. I never had those problems with DS1! (and sposies give him rashes too.)

Well, this one I had just washed/relanolized! : And the rash was on his tummy. There was a clear line where the diaper stopped and the cover touched his skin. I have been using my cover for I think 2 months now! I have two, and it happened with the blue one, around the legs, and tummy, so I thought maybe it was the diaper, but then it happened again! There had been NO reaction before.

I wash them about once a week, he's a heavy wetter at night. I found a wonderful hemp fitted to go underneath it- Babykicks OS. If he wears it 8 hours or so, he starts to feel a bit damp with compression on the outside of the cover, but no leaks otherwise!

The only thing I could think was maybe I didn't rinse the wool wash out well enough before I did the lanolin?

So I rewashed the blue one. And I guess I'll go rewash the white one too. . .

Oh, and I use Ecover Delicates HE wash. Just a dribble.

Maybe try a different wool wash? A mild baby shampoo works just fine and is probably gentler on baby skin since it's meant to be applied directly to the scalp anyway.

I don't know what's in the Ecover delicates wash, but my DS got a terrible rash when I washed the dipes with Ecover powder detergent.

I wondered about the detergent, too - plus rinsing with hot with wool is sort of dicey, so it would probably take more rinses to get the detergent out. The baby wash is a great idea...
