Mishenchnas Av, Mimaatim B'simcha -- Jewish Mothers, don't get rid of joy completely! - Page 3

Oh, a couple of my kids have gone to 2 year-old programs, but it very much depends on the temperment of the child. It's only a few hours, but esp. for Batsheva, she really needed it. She turned 3 in Oct. of last year and she is one of the younger kids of a brood and used to lots of action. When everyone would head off to school, it was boring for her after a while. We still had afternoons for some mommy-time, but she loves going to school in the AM for some socialization and out-of-house experience.

I think I'll wait till we are somewhat settled (hah) and go check out the programs - for the 2 weeks left of summer before they start. If it seems like something she'd enjoy, I'll consider it, but otherwise, I'm not sold.

We're in Lancaster, PA and we spent yesterday at an amusement park. I was more than excited to see (and eat at) the KOSHER FOOD COURT :: And the place was covered in obviously observant Jews, and I'm sure plenty more who looked like us. Anyway. DH was on a ride with DD, and I was sitting on a bench waiting. Two men were sitting next to me and saying the most disgusting, vile, offensive things about "Those people" (the Orthodox, obviously Jewish) and "what right do they think they have to be here" among other choice comments about the style of dress, and then they speculated about their home lives.

I wish I had been wearing a tichel, but I was just in a skirt and an elbow bearing shirt.
I wish I had said something, but I didn't know what to say.
It has, B"H, been so long since I've dealt with anything like that, I was stunned and just didn't know how to reply. I gave them a very dirty look and called to my DD (who has a very obviously Jewish name) and hoped they at least understood those comments were made in the presence of "one of those people."

Glad you liked the kosher mart. Sorry you had such an awful experience at Dutch Wonderland. Did you get my PM?

F'g, sorry it was in your face.

TBH, I rarely noticed stuff like that till I became frum. And even moreso, once my oldest boy was 3yo (wearing a kipa/peyos). Then I heard it way too often.

Another reason we left ...

Hey, mamas. This thread seems to have died a horrible death. Or are we all just waiting for the Elul thread?

I was just coming to post that I'm finally getting ready to sub to this thread and hoping my bump would get things going.
It's been busy here, but not interesting. DH is away (gone 3 days and 3 bedtimes already, comes home in another two days and 1 bedtime!) and we have a lot of family coming Sunday morning for "back to the house" after FIL's unveiling, but my house is a disastrous mess, and I'm panicking about getting it all ready in time. And today is the kids' last day at camp, and the next three weeks is a whirr of activity with docs appts, school preps, etc. and keeping the kids quiet and out of dh's way while he tries to work.
All I really want to do is climb into bed and go back to sleep (I don't sleep well when dh is away) but when I tried that yesterday, the phone rang and woke me up!
Roll on September 8th!

I've just been online a lot less. I've been busy getting the house cleaned up, and that requires me to be there, supervising the kids (since I'm not physically capable of doing most of the work that needs doing.)

You're right- this thread HAS been dead! It's time for a new thread already and we're barely past 50 posts? This isn't like us! We need to get chattier!

Oh, I started the new thread.
