Baby is refusing my left breast

Thread Starter
I finally got him to latch on today, once, but for the past two days whenever I try to nurse DS on my left breast he gets super fussy and refuses it. I switch him to my right and he immediately latches on and it's fine.
He is 2 weeks and 3 days old. I think he is going through a growth spurt right now because he's been doing some cluster nursing (and gained 4 oz. in one day!), he's been pretty fussy for the past two days.
My left breast keeps getting so engorged and I have to keep pumping it cause he won't nurse. Is anyone else going through something similar? Anyone have any ideas of why he won't nurse on the left?

I had this on my right side, at about the same age as well. I switched holds on him and tricked him into thinking he was nursing on his favored side.

If ds2 is very fussy/gassy, he will refuse the right side. In those cases, I think it just feels better to lay on his left.

Also, when his tooth came in, he wanted his 'preferred' side.

DS1 (now 26mos and still BF) has always preferred my left...now that he can talk, he says there is more milk in that one, and when I pump, I do actually et twice as much from his preferred breast than his less preferred. Interesting....

A stuffy nose or stuffed up ears can do this. My dd perfer one side because it put her good ear up.

Try chaning your hold like football or laying down.

Yep. Or snuck in the left boob while he was half asleep.
