Fish in fish broth

I was wondering about what kind of fish to use for fish broth. I live in Alberta Canada so am completely land locked. I also live in a super small town so finding quality fish would be an issue.

Luckily we live on a lake and near rivers and we fish. There's perch, pike, whitefish, brown trout etc up here. I know that oily fish are not preferred for broth, but otherwise I'm lost. So, does anyone else use freshwater fish for their broth?

I use dried sardines or smoked bonito flakes, but I'm Japanese so my method is a little different.
