How high for a bread table?

My dad is making me a wooden bread table. How high should he make it?
If you were to have a table for making bread, what would you want it to be like? Any special drawers? What would you put in the drawers? Just looking for ideas

Height of the table would depend on your height. You can try googling "baker table" to get some idea - a quick look see came up with 35.5 inches for me. But that may not be a good height for you if you're particularly short or tall.

It's about the height that is comfortable for you to be working at... where you can work without stooping, but still have leverage for applying pressure for kneading or rolling.

My perfect baking table would:

-be very, VERY sturdy so you don't have to worry about it moving while kneading or rolling, etc...
-have a LARGE, butcher block top with enough room to have a bowl of dough or batter and still have plenty of work space and a sheet pan to put the finished loaf (or whatever).
-have an easy-to-access place for rolling pins, bench scrapers, and the likes.
-have an open shelf for stashing pans with bread or whatever it is that you are working on.
-store ingredients for baking.
-have a cup (or some little container) that hung off the side for bench flour.
-be self-cleaning

The height is very personal. Make sure that you can comfortably shape dough without being hunched over but still have your arms reasonably straight... if that makes sense. I messed up my back working on a table that was not the right height. Bend your knees while you knead

When you knead at your counter, do you with it was higher or lower? I always wish it were lower, because I can't get enough force usually. I think the ideal for me might be at about my waist.

Yes! so sturdy so it can't possibly wiggle or move.

I would also like a built in "scraping" bowl for excess flour and such to go into. I am a messy baker.

Oh and maybe a removable top that is set in, so I could also put a marble slab in for pastry making.

I'm a bit jealous- great Dad!

Thanks guys! I like the idea of having something to scrape flour and scraps into.
I will make sure it is stable. Oooo I can't wait!!

Maybe have one place to scrape into but another one for clean flour that you can take a little bit to sprinkle on the board or dip your fingers in if they are sticky.

Fun, fun!
