Juicing for health - Page 3

Well the fiber may be fine for me, but that may be why my dd's leaky gut is healing well and we have been juicing almost everyday lately.

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to share this cool juicing aha moment.

For years I have struggled with sugar spikes. It was getting bad this fall and winter, when honestly my entire health was plummeting.

In January I started juicing, mostly doing a Romaine lettuce, celery, cucumber blend. I didn't have any energy to figure out what was best for me, so I just followed a wise mama's plan and it turned out to be awesome is sooooo many ways.

Here is the newest reason:
I have juiced consistently for the rest of the winter and spring, and really saw steady increase in health, including blood sugar issues.
This early summer I went on a three week vacation. I only juiced maybe 3 times a week. My bouncing on the balls of my feet energy disappeared by day 15. (I believe there were other contributing reasons for my low energy) I got out the the habit of juicing, and was doing it max twice a week since then. Since July I have noticed that I've been having significant problems with insulin again - at times only pure fat or protein can work.

I posted about this on the allergy forum, and a wise mama recommend GTF chromium. I did a search on the whfoods.com site to see what whole food I could use as a source.

dummm dumm ta dummm!!!!! who has the most excellent rating???

Romaine Lettuce!!!

Yes, I do believe that my juicing was helping me keep my insulin levels even. I went to the farmer's market and got two full heads of romaine today.

Maybe another time I will explain how juicing helped me figure out my depressions issues, and sulfation issues.

keep on juicing (and making smoothies) ladies!

FairyRae posted this site Green Smoothie Girl and I'm enjoying it. Informative, step-by-step suggestions.

Just wanted to bump this old thread to get the conversation going again. I just got my new(used) juicer in the mail, and I'm ready to start juicing!! (I got a hell of a deal on an Omega 8005 on eBay last week!)

Amy- do you have any favorite recipes that don't use fruits? DD is allergic to pretty much every fruit out there... we are using bananas right now, so I could blend the juice with bananas (although that seems like WAY too many dishes for me ).

We also want to avoid things with high oxalates....

We do a romaine, cucumber, celery mix sweetened with fruit. If you are heavy on the cucumber it won't need much sweetness and the banana should work.

Carrot is also lovely.

I have a vitamix. The juices tend to be very thick but the fiber is good for me. I got my latest juice recipe from The Raw Uncookbook, it's called Blood. It has an apple (preferably sweet), beet, ginger, lime. Yum! Make sure its served chilled. Sometimes I'll add a carrot to that.

I have romaine, cucumber, and carrots on hand. Do you think those would be a good mix? I guess I will have to just experiment and find out!

I finally had some time to open up my juicer and play with it a bit. I love it! It's amazing how different the masticating juicer is from my old, crazy loud centrifugal one. (I got an Omega 8005.) DD wasn't too sure about the romain/cucumber/carrot blend, but she did drink a little.

Can you do beets? They are sweet. What about apple? Lemon?

We can't do any fruits. We really shouldn't do beets (or carrots either for that matter...) because they're high oxalate.

I'm so glad to have found this thread!

I have been juicing for about 7 years and my Juice man Jr. is on it's last leg. I knew if I checked here I would find some good advice. I am leaning towards the Omega j8005. Has anyone tried this machine for nut or seed butters, in addition to juice? TIA

He stresses the importance of adding fat to your drink, or alongside, especially for absorption of vitamin K.
I still dont know how much is necessary.

I don't know if it would be enough but I add coconut milk yogurt to my smoothies.
