babywearing in the pool?

i have a 3 year old who is dying for me to be able to romp in the pool like we used to but it's pretty hard with a 5 month old in my arms. we've been making it work but it's not very much fun.
i don't have the cash to buy a water sling so i'm wondering if i could use a rayon (i think) wrap that i have that i think is originally intended as a bathing suit coverup. it looks like it's made from the same thing as BMBB? i'm blanking on the name for them but it's one of those things that traditional women in hawaii wear as everyday dress.
i could wrap rebozo and sit her on my hip?

I purchased a few yards of a water resistant fabric (doesn't bleed) and it was kind of meshy/gauzy...I just cut it to fit me & tie it like a pocket sling.

It worked great & dried super fast. I bought extra in case I messed up & cut it too short. The fabric was on sale & I don't think I paid more than $10 for two water slings.

I'm sure it would work just fine - but the chlorine might deteriote the fabric so you should check it for wear often.

thanks ladies. i'm thinking now it may not be long enough. i have 5 freakin' yards of osnaburg that i never used since i bought a storch inka. maybe i should just rip it down and use that! i just watched a rebozo hip carry on yt and i think that'll work if i tie her high enough.

there was someone at our pool the other day that was just using a regular padded ring sling

not sure of your budget but my husband just ordered me a solarveil ring sling from sleepingbaby.net for $45. this material has been discontinued so they are going fast. i figure i will definitely be able to resell it when the time comes. it blocks 70% of the suns rays and is pretty comfy. hth!

If you can sew, you could make a cheap mesh ring sling. Rings would cost about $4, and fabric $8ish.

I bought the lycra material, it was on clearance...it was really really stretchy, but I wrapped him up good, and we made a go of it
