AUGUST 10th?????? When did your summer vacation START??? Wow - bummer. We start September 1st for my middle schooler and September 9th for my elementary kids. Colleges here start the end of September.

Eek, so early? My DD will be in kindergarten this year, and although we don't have a calendar yet, last year they started on September 3, so that's a good sign for us. She's in the midst of a funny-looking plastic surgery procedure on her face right now, with the end date surgery on August 25. I'm hoping she'll have a bit of time to heal before starting in a brand-new school with a bunch of brand-new kids who don't know her whole story yet.

I'm finding the impending start to kindergarten a bit stressful.

All schools in our district start September 8 with a projected last day of school being June 18.

Usually we have a couple of snow/ice days though, so going into the third or fourth week of June is not unknown.

Those of you who start school in August--is this a hot weather climate thing? Or a year round school thing? Do you have the usual two weeks off for winter break and one week off for spring break or something else?

I think here in the Pacific Northwest, if they tried to start school in August there would be a LOT of complaining. We only get so much decent (rain and cloud free) weather--so families have to make the most of every summer day! I remember one year when a teachers' strike pushed back the last day of school into the first week of July--oh, that was horrid!

The traditional day to start is the first weekday after Labor Day.

I can't imagine a public school district doesn't have a published calendar this late in the year. I would get online and look at the district website to find out when registration and the first day of school are. Our district has planning calendars published for the next three years at a time.

We're in Ohio. They always get the two weeks off for winter break, and usually two days off for an Easter break.

Sept 9. Last day is June 11.

It's a private preschool, but follows the same calendar as the town it's located in public school (so that siblings follow the same schedule, and K kids can do half day enrichment.)

First full day of school here is Aug. 10th last day was May 28th public school.
This year looks like May 25 will be the last day but that all depends on the weather.

It used to be the last week of August but every year they keep bumping it up : and I do NOT like it. Kids need more time off in the summer. They get a week off for Thanksgiving & 2 weeks for Christmas and New Years. Spring break a week in April.

If it ever gets to the point where they are going for year round school here my kids wont be going any more. I will do what I have to do to homeschool.

Sorry about that mini rant there

Ours start on August 24th...which is about a week later than last year. I'm not sure when the last day is... sometime in June.

It's FLorida...a hot weather thing. They used to start earlier in August and get out in May...but it seems like they keep extending the school year.

It's taken a while for me to get used to an August start, having grown up in the North where we always started after Labor Day.

My daughter starts August 21. She's going in to pre-K. The school she attends is a private Pre-K through 8 and the kids in grades 1-8 start on August 17.

This comming year (and its very similiar to last year)
first day August 10th
Last day may 28th
Thanksgiving is a week off
Christmas is 2 weeks
Spring break a week
plus about 6 other daily holidays and breaks
It's Hot here and from that POV I really don't mind the early start I'm starting to go crazy here finding enough indoor entertainment. My DD school does start at least a week before most of the PS (she is in a charter) but she also gets out earlier.
Shes in an 180 day school year and goes from 8am-2:30pm Monday- Friday

My son starts on Aug 17. He has half days for a week and full days start on the 24th.

Weird thing, tho - our school district has half days just about every Wednesday (although I think this may be that last year they do that).
