While on the thread discussing natural deodorants I thought I would try to make my own liquid deodorant. I posted at the end of the other thread but decided to start a new one. I mixed together lavender EO, coconut oil, baking soda, a little alcohol and water. I don't know what is in the Weleda deodorant but I thought maybe this would work. I just made a really small amount to try it out. My ony question was what type of alcohol. I probably should have used vodka which is what I read on a few other sites. Anyone tried this?

i have a small 2 oz. spray bottle that i put it in and give the 'ol pits about 3 sprays each.
it's all estimations...about 2/3 alcohol, 1/3 water and a few drops each tt and lavender eo's. sometimes i will have to spray 2x/day if it's really warm, but it's the best thing i've tried, imho. good luck!!

Generic Milk of Magnesia
I don't know if it is thin enough to spray, but I have been using cheap old generic Milk of Magnesia as deodorant, and it is working perfectly! I just upend the bottle onto my fingertips, then smooth the milky liquid on my underarms. It dries more quickly than other liquids, has no fragrance, and is magnesium, a mineral that we all need, and that many folks are deficient in.I love that it is utterly harmless, unlike even the deodorant stone liquids, and that it works so well! I have extremely sensitive skin, and have reacted very badly to anything containing baking soda, cannot use fragrances (no essential oils for me), etc. The Milk of Magnesia causes absolutely no reaction of any kind, except that I don't smell one bit.
Can you tell I'm pretty happy with this?

Tried more alcohol but its not working for me at all. The weather here is so hot and humid-90's. Really bad. I smell really bad too. I don't think this spray will work for me until the fall when the weather gets back to normal.

I don't know if this may be a factor in your experience, but for me, I found that it took a week or two for the alcohol spray to be "enough." It was as if there were toxins or something from my old commercial deodorant that had to work its way out of my body.

If I think about it the coconut oil does work the best so far. I think I may try to mix some with some EO's to try. The spray thing sounded perfect though.

I read bergamot EO is the best deodorizing EO. I mixed up bergamot, lemongrass, and sweet almond oil with a bit of vitamin E for deodorant this weekend. It worked well out camping in the heat with plenty of physical activity. I also put one drop of bergamot on my bra where it sits under my arms (so two drops total). We had no showers, so I thought ahead and put one drop of bergamot on the seams of my nightshirt (so two drops total), also. I smelled good throughout the first day and night and next morning. We got home around noon and at some point after that I did notice a bit of a funk. DH didn't notice, though. (It was a girl scout campout and he didn't go.)
I didn't use any more of that mix because it was my starting point for an insect repellant. That also worked well and I added a thyme blend (commercially prepared) to it.
That same concept would work with coconut oil as your base, if you prefer it.
