school clothes how much? - Page 2

Actually I won't have to purchase clothing for school until November or December. It is so hot here that DS can wear his summer clothing until then.
Same here. I'll buy them 1 new outfit for the first day/pictures but other than that they keep wearing what they've worn all summer until the end of Sept-October.

Then I pull out the winter clothes & if they need stuff I'll buy 1-2 things. They get 1-2 things from us for christmas & my oldests bday is in Nov so she gets some then too.

For 3 kids i spend maybe $100-$125 for the beginning of school.

DS is in preschool. No uniform, and the dress code is basically "Quick to get off when the kid needs to go potty in a hurry, send a spare set of clothes in case they don't make it. Expect there to be paint on it some times."

Back in may, I ran into winter blue jeans and cords on sale for $2.99, so I bought a bunch in the next size up. $20 or $25. The same store also had hoodies and fleece jackets for $1.99, I picked up a few of those. $10 or $15. Then when threadless.com had its $5 sale I bought the whole family t-shirts. DS's portion was probably around $20 or $30. I got him new sneakers recently for $7.

I guess that comes to somewhere around $60 or $80. A lot of his clothes from last year still fit so far. Since he just had a growth spurt, I think we might be good for a while :.

I just finished ordering DS1's school clothes (uniform of solid polos/button downs and navy/black/khaki slacks)

I bought everything at Gymboree using Gymbucks. (Thanks again to akichan! )

For $136 (with Gymbucks to get $25/off every $50 spent) I bought:
6 slacks (2 ea., Navy, Khaki, Black)
5 short sleeved polos, various solid colors
4 long sleeved polos, "
1 button down white oxford
1 sweater vest

He's got one or two pairs of pants and a few shirts that may still fit, and nearly new shoes. He's set for socks and underthings.

We're lucky because it's warm here through October, so DS can wear his shorts and tees through the beginning of the school year. He will need a new pair of shoes ($40-$50, he has wide feet) before school starts.

In the fall I will probably buy 4 or 5 pairs of Target jeans ($8 each) and some long sleeve shirts (cost is probably $8-$10 depending on where I get them).

I've already bought him a new lunch box because the one he used last year is disgusting, and I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy him a new backpack... the one he used last year had it's top handle come off and while inconvenient it is not unusable... however I know how annoying it can be not to have that handle.

I just went to a used uniform sale yesterday at the school where ds will be starting in the fall. The prices were amazing and the stock was plentiful, esp. for the polo shirts, which do have to be monogrammed. Parents, check with your school to see if they do used uniform sales!! If you've already bought for this year, maybe you can sell your uniforms there next year.

I was hoping to be able to do this as they have a great uniform exchange policy here but this year they totaly re did the uniforms so pretty much everyone will have to start new...

My kids will be going to a uniform school in the fall. I've been shopping the thrift stores for them since we got the list of items. I've got pants in navy and khaki, white and navy polos and white peter pan blouses for an average of $2.50 per item. I bought their socks at the Nordstrom anniversary sale (cheaper prices than Gymboree for socks and tights and better quality!).

Some things can only be bought at the school or from the official supplier (i.e. plaid jumpers) but there's a uniform exchange at the school the first week, so we'll get those then.

I just can't bring myself to spend $15 or $20 for a pair of kids pants or a polo shirt!

Our uniforms (3 jumpers, 1 pair of shorts and 4 polos) came to $117. I still need to by crew socks and shoes though. And in the winter, I'll need some tights and a pair of pants or two.

By the time she's in 1st grade, I'll be able to get the used uniforms, which are about half price. Unfortunatly, nothing survives Kindergarten and Pre-K.

ETA: Our school has very specific uniforms that they sell. I can't just go to Target and get white polos and navy pants. If I could, it would have been slightly cheaper before tax, but more expensive after.
