new baby coming--what do i need, if anything?

i have a new baby coming. with my first, i was not nearly as on the natural family living path as i am now.

what products or oils do i need, if ANYTHING? i am not intending on using shampoo or soap with this baby. i will give gentle sponge baths once a week...what about for moisturizing? what is a good natural solution? i would like to give my baby massages, and would like to use an appropriate and natural oil or lotion.

is there anything else i am not thinking about that i might need, and i so, what is the most natural route to go, or what products to you all use or make??

thanks so much in advance, mamas!!! i appreciate it.

I've been wondering this as well. My bradley instructor says it's ok to use anything you would eat, so I was thinking maybe coconut oil?

I have a 5-week old, and we got a bottle of Nature's Baby Vanilla Tangerine Body Soap/Shampoo at a shower. It smells so good that I want to eat it. Anyway, we've just used a little squirt, as in, smaller than a pencil eraser, when she does her tub bath. I also use a lavender/tea tree oil solution with olive oil and water and a dollop of the baby wash in a cloth wipe solution I made myself, which also smells delicious. We use Charlie's Soap in the wash, with some vinegar sometimes in the extra rinse since she had a yeast rash.

I've massaged her with organic olive oil, and she smells just like a little tater tot when I'm done and she's all relaxed! We don't have any J&J products in the house because they seriously freak me out.

yes - massage with olive oil after a bath and theres the "moisturizer"

If you're not using soap, I don't think there will be much need to moisturize. Keep her skin-to-skin with you as much as possible so that some of your natural oils transfer.

Lanolin can soothe mild diaper rash. Apart from that I just clean my babe with water, maybe some homemade Castile soap now and then. His skin doesn't dry out.
