HSLDA - any way to counteract it?

Hi

Via some email lists I am on, I have received a number of email updates from HSLDA on non-homeschooling issues - US health care being the most recent one.

Is there a national/international organization that counteracts the message that HSLDA speaks for all or the majority of homeschoolers?

In Canada the HSLDA dedicates upwards of 70% of its lobbying efforts at the federal government (when k-12 education is the sole jurisdiction of the provincial governments). And at every conference I attend they are there as the "voice of homeschoolers". blech

I want some place to state publicly and for the record that HSLDA doesn't speak for me as a homeschooler.

Does this exist at some level higher than state/province? Does anyone know?

I haven't had the chance to look at Lillian's, but I've always toyed with the idea of contacting my representatives directly when I disagree with what HSLDA has come out in support of. To both let them know that I disagree with their recommendation and to state that HSLDA doesn't represent me.

A whole lot more time consuming and not quite so "authoritative", I fear, but still worth it.
